I'm lucky that I discovered him on accident. A friend of mine went to a library sale and bought Permutation City. The cover intrigued me. After not being able to find it in any library in my area I tried Schild's Ladder. Now, I like to think of myself as someone that likes a good, challenging book, but man, I made it about 3/4 the way through when I just couldn't follow it anymore.

Luckily, after Googling for more hard science fiction books to check out, Greg Egan kept popping up. I decided to give Diaspora a try. And just....wow. Diaspora made it into my top 5 hard science fiction books of all time.

I'm just sad that I've almost run out of Greg Egan books to read. I've read all Alastair Reynolds and I'm finally about to read the last book in Vernor Vinge's Zones of Thought Trilogy. Any recommendations?

Greg Egan has a kind of running theme with the whole "people vs. machine" question. He specifically explores it in his short story collection Crystal Nights and Other Stories (most directly in the stories Crystal Nights and Singleton). You'll also find the same theme running through his other novels.

As others have pointed out in this thread Asimov is pretty much the grandfather of the whole "are machines people" question.

Some argue that the movie A.I. was saccharine sweet nonsense that Spielberg ruined. But, I found it well-acted, though provoking, and the part that everyone says Spielberg ruined was actually put in by Kubrick.

Just curious, why does everyone seem to fear and hate switching to myfsu? I made the switch early voluntarily. I find the newer interface easier, more intuitive, and much more efficient to work with. Emails with replies are much cleaner (leaving less clutter in the inbox). I haven't really had a need for it, but the extra storage is also nice.

This was my first year in retail edge. Don't mean to rain on your parade, but some people are half-way correct in saying that it's not that great of a deal.

Yes, $90 for an i7 2700k is an amazing deal. No, $150 is not a great deal for that board (that's what it works out to for the combo).

I ended up just getting the proc and grabbing the Gigabyte GA-Z68XP-UD3 for $109 after rebate at Newegg.

Again, sorry to put any kind of damper on the parade. Enjoy the speed, I know I am.

Guess most of us were too busy playing to actually look up news on the game. Took a lot of us by surprise when we got booted.

So, we go to the blog for into on the patch. "Go to Battlelog for a complete list of changes." Battlelog is down ಠ_ಠ

Which reminds me, can you even play this game in single or co-op mode if Battlelog is down? Seems pretty crippling if you can't.
