I would argue that it is not a trend. 34 years old here, have had tunnels in my ears since I was 16. It has gotten more popular for sure, but I wouldn't call it a trend.

The judging of people isn't limited to the population that decides to modify - people are inherently judgmental of almost anyone around them.

Hey thanks OP (and reddit in general) for the blanket judgement on all people like that. I work in a professional environment with tunnels in my ears, plenty of tattoos including all over my knuckles and hands and have never had a problem with it.

How I look and how I perform my job are not mutually exclusive. I am a creative person, and make the choice to adorn myself as I do - I don't answer to anyone about it unless asked politely. I also haven't been unemployed in over 8 years, and doubt I'd have any problem finding a job if the one I am in now ever changes.

On top of that - I am not going to enjoy working in a place that doesn't allow me to be me.
