Does any other Country have a set up like the US and DC? by megatooththesecondin answers

[–]pupeno 5 points6 points ago

Argentina has a similar setup, with Buenos Aires city (a.k.a: Capital Federal), the capital city, being at the same level as a province (states). As far as I know Mexico has a similar arrangement with Mexico City (a.k.a.: Distrito Federal).

Which way should I point my fan? by TubePincherin answers

[–]pupeno 0 points1 point ago

That would only work if the difference in temperature is quite big. What a fan normally does is blow air, hot or cold, doesn't matter*, on your skin, accelerating the process of perspiration evaporation, which is what cools your body down.

* well, actually, there is a maximum in which this doesn't work anymore, I'd say that if the air is warmer than your body, then it might stop working, but I'm not sure as evaporation would happen anyway.

I'm a black belt in Taekwon-do, there's no Taekwon-do in there; and I'd venture to say there's no Krav Maga either.

I think it is different to say "we have faster than light travel" than to have spaceships behave like airplanes. If they say "we have hyperships that fly through hyperspace which is just like air, but in space", then I'm fine with that.

TIL that you can get model aircraft insurance for $58 a year, and it comes with a Model Aviation Monthly subscription. by NotaClipaMagazinein radiocontrol

[–]pupeno 1 point2 points ago

Are you talking about the US? that changes country by country. In Switzerland, joining a RC club includes the insurance, for about 200CHF/year, but the normal personal insurance that you should get anyway does cover damaged caused by RC aircraft that weight 25kg or less.

Firefly... more characters alive and longer.

By the way... I'm just being pedantic. I think saying that Linux sucks because there are two different package managers is as useless as saying that X.org sucks because there are two different package managers around it.

I didn't have a time to watch it, but I got as far as the list of distros. I'll watch it when I have time.

Then it should be What sucks about Ubuntu.

Let me guess... a lot of it is about how different Ubuntu is to Fedora. Well, guess what, Linux is just a kernel. FreeBSD is different to OpenBSD and nobody complaints because people know they are different things and treat them differently. If you treat Ubuntu and Fedora as single entities that are different, then saying "linux sucks" make no sense unless you are really talking about the project that Linus Torvalds maintains.

For me Atlas Shrugged had the same effect. I was more or less the kind of demanding worker she complaints about. I decided to stop being a whinny improductive free-loader and get to work... and work hard. Today I'm CTO of my own startup... I don't consider myself successful yet, but I'm getting there.

I'd like to be able to make drawings like that. I took some drawing lessons but we ended up doing things like this: http://wp.me/pzxz5-1nI and http://wp.me/pzxz5-1mX and I'm still useless at drawing a face with a few lines like you did.

Any tips in how to get there?

I knew exactly which scene you were linking to. I love it:

Only one human captain has ever survived battle with the Minbari fleet, he's behind me, you are in front of me. If you value your lives, be somewhere else.

What is laking from that clip is how big an impact that episode has. It was like if the Federation was turning evil and finally decides to turn into a dictatorship, goes and tries to take the Enterprise by force. Picard decides to take a stand and fights. The Federation brings more firepower and only the Klingons (a former enemy) save the day by declaring the Enterprise under their protection and by doing that, destroy relationships with the main and biggest part of human civilisation.

If I recall correctly, at the end of that episode, Sheridan leaves his coat on a chair and someone points out he's forgetting it. He says that he won't be able to wear it until they fix the government and stops standing for tyranny. Then they get new uniforms.
