But how could you live forever without fixing the health issues or making them somehow obsolete? It's a contradiction from my point of view. Clearly you don't want to suffer, but most people don't want to suffer whether they live forever or not.

So far, when we manage to extend life, we manage to do it by increasing health and also increasing the quality of life (for the most part). Why would anyone think that technology advances would allow us to improve the length of life by maintaining the same downward curve in quality?

I'm not attacking you... but every time I speak with someone about the issue, they seem to have the same answer... I don't want to live like a cripple for the rest of eternity. They think technology is turning us into yodas, when it's turning us into time lords.

Now, the question about resources is much more interesting to me. The acceleration of the population is started to slow down (I'm contributing by not having any kids). Not much, and it's not even the speed, only the acceleration. We are still superpopulating this planet really fast. But if you look at those countries that stopped growing or started shrinking, it's those with the highest standard of living and education, like Germany.

People will learn about birth control, family planning, etc. I'm an optimistic and I believe education will get better and eventually reach more countries and more people. For those that doubt me I invite you to find out the percentage of the population that could read 200 years ago, 100 years ago, 50 years ago and now. Also, which percentage finished college in that time-span (heck, I think the country I was born in didn't have any universities 200 years ago).

I hope advances in solar will give us the energy we need and we'll get better and better at re-using our resources. But this is just uninformed hope.

I'm not holding my breath for space colonisation... although I think it should be priority #2. We are sitting ducks here.
