World's Biggest Bride: What She Eats in A Day by BuckRowdyin WTF

[–]professor_mc 1 point2 points ago

It takes the enabling family to support her illness. I had an aunt who got to 500lbs with the help of her family who would fry her a whole chicken and serve it to her in bed with a whole pie for dessert. She was too fat to leave her room or fit in most cars. When she died at about 50 years old she had to have 10 casket bearers for her custom made casket which was over twice normal size. Her children suffered from her fat mentality for years then most of them went on to lose weight and lead normal lives.

I have finally realized that I am bisexual. How do I tell my parents? by suddenlybiin AskReddit

You have not provided any information as to why you would need to tell them. Unless you are openly dating someone of the same sex and don't want them to hear about it 3rd person why tell?

Reddit, as a classical musician, tell me what we could do better. What is it about classical music that keeps you away from our concerts? by a12345678910in AskReddit

[–]professor_mc -2 points-1 points ago

Classical music is very abstract for most people. It is much easier to relate to music that has meaning to your life. Being instrumental music is a big part of that abstraction. I probably would not listen to an completely instrumental concert of most genres unless it was by the absolute best performers. I wouldn't do it regularly. Try imagining any great rock song with the lyrics replaced with a trumpet melody. Still as great?

Classical music is predictable. At most rock concerts you are going to hear new unreleased songs, different versions of songs and some improvisation.

Classical music rhythms and structures are far removed from what has mass appeal. The three minute song with the verse/chorus/verse/bridge structure is what people are used to and, frankly, like. Even artists like Radiohead and Frank Zappa used this structure extensively.

Classical concerts are a passive activity that engage just one sense. People like to go out to dance, mosh, socialize, people watch, etc. Not sit still and be quite. Movies are passive too but they have plot and visuals to engage you. They are also way cheaper.

Personally, most classical music just annoys me. To say that it is one of the greatest forms of art is opinion not fact.

Stuntman style invincibility. Mountain biking and skateboarding would be so much more fun.

Best replacements for: Calendar, Notes, Reminders, Clock, and Twitter by ciscoivin iphone

Week Cal and Evernote for me. Evernote can do so,so much more than the stock app. I use it every day for both work and personal stuff. It has a desktop client and a web client too. You can make audio reminders and photo notes in addition to text.

Week Cal is simple and much better than the stock app. Everyone I show it to that is still on the stock app downloads it immediately.

How Yahoo Killed Flickr and Lost the Internet by NotLurkingAnymorein photography

[–]professor_mc 0 points1 point ago

Although Flickr has been stagnant for a while I still prefer it over anything else I have seen. I use it not to share with the world so much as to have an online place I can organize my "keeper" photos for my own enjoyment. Facebook is horrible for managing photos. Try moving a photo from one album to another or putting one in two albums at the same time. Facebook also ruins photo quality with their compression and flattening of contrast.

Men of reddit, honestly, what would your reaction be if a girl asked you on a date? by baripsterin AskReddit

Australian road trippin' to Arizona. I want to see the Grand Canyon. Where should I go? by Lochlanin arizona

[–]professor_mc 1 point2 points ago

Also, if you have a camper van there is no reason to go to Phoenix or Tucson. There is so much awesome camping in Northern Arizona skip going to the city. If you do the south rim go to Flagstaff and Sedona.

Australian road trippin' to Arizona. I want to see the Grand Canyon. Where should I go? by Lochlanin arizona

[–]professor_mc 3 points4 points ago

Go to the north rim and park that camper van right on the rim and camp in solitude along the Rainbow Rim Trail. Hike or bike the trail. Visit the north rim visitors center which I think is way cooler than the overcrowded south rim. You can also hike or bike a section of the Arizona Trail that goes by the North Rim visitors center. Then head to Zion National Park and Bryce Canyon National Parks in Utah. They are not that far from the North rim.

When I went to Rainbow Rim we set up right on the rim and only saw 5 or 6 other people in 3 days. The sunsets were incredible. PM me if you want to see my pictures.

Looking for app to trace where I go by Frynewin iphone

MotionX GPS is really good for tracking and it is easier on the battery than other apps I have tried. It uses 3-5% per hour for me and usually leave bluetooth on and wifi off. Tracks export to google maps or google earth.

Beaver Street in Flagstaff is good. Go straight to Flagstaff and then spend as much time as possible at the canyon. Go to all the viewpoints you can and walk along the rim. Your trip is pretty short for your itinerary.

America is becoming a nation of renters and the American dream of owning a home is fading fast. by allliein politics

[–]professor_mc 3 points4 points ago

Not only are we becoming a renter nation, the landlords are more frequently major corporations with huge holdings. In past decades it was not uncommon for rental houses to be owned by individuals that had 1-5 houses as an investment and as passive income for retirement. Now many foreclosed homes are being bought in big lots for cash by huge investment companies that have little if any ties to the community. As I was searching for a rental house to help a relative I talked to more than a few rental managers that confirmed this shift in my area. Most house below the median home value in the area are being bought for cash by investors; effectively freezing out any potential buyers who would take out a mortgage for the property.

Just got a Lenovo Thinkpad Tablet. Any suggestions on how to make it better? by onasri15in Android

[–]professor_mc 0 points1 point ago

For notetaking I use 7notes combined with Evernote. 7notes is an app that is an alternate keyboard that allows you to use the stylus to write instead of type. It converts the handwriting into text on the fly. I write notes directly into Evernote and then I can edit them later. I have tried many note apps and this combination is what I'm sticking with. In Evernote I can expand, clarify and re-order the notes. It is way more robust than any of the purely pen based apps.

What is the difference in my iPhone and another camera? by sloppypotatoein photography

[–]professor_mc 0 points1 point ago

There are innumerable differences in both the technology and capability between an iPhone camera and a DSLR. You are getting downvoted because it seems you have not even begun to investigate what a DSLR is and can do before asking Reddit to spell it out for you. There are several links on the /r/photography sidebar you can check out.

My favorite is Kitchen 56 at 56th and Indian School Rd in Phoenix. It is a simple burger - not an overdone monster like some places. Kitchen 56 is a nice local spot with other great food too.
