Life in Georgia is pretty good. by GG1982in Atlanta

I was actually pretty impressed with McD's knockoff of their sandwiches, the "Southern-style Chicken Sandwich." Good enough substitute that I was able to stick to my goal of no more Chick-Fil-A. Little cheaper, too.

(...though I do miss my waffle fries :I)

Why do professional websites like PayPal use shitty artifact filled jpg images like this? by FourMakesTwoUNLESSin webdesign

Amazon does this too; it's the WORST because those "Letters from the CEO" on the main page are horribly-artifacted and all black-on-white text. Gah.

With the Chino Shorts on sale, it's made me thinking about what I could wear with them. Any tips/help? by Frostiezin frugalmalefashion

[–]popthatcorn 0 points1 point ago

Thanks! The J Crew ones are way pricier ($16 for two versus $10 for five), so I'll try the Journeys ones first. Hopefully once my Sperrys get broken in, I won't need them at all, but right now it'st he only way I can wear them.

What size shoe do you wear? I've been doing a bit of reading online, and a lot of loafer socks are apparently too tight for size >10-11 feet like mine. I'm wondering if that's true for Journey's, since they seem to be some of the cheapest around.

How would you spend the 20% discount on Amazon Clothing? by inakarmacomain malefashionadvice

I was annoyed to see all of the loafer socks on there seem to be of hit-or-miss quality and also stupid expensive :\

So I wandered into Atlanta's hip, predominantly gay district and I came out with a haircut. by LeTigreLeTigrein malefashionadvice

Holy shit, where'd you go for that? I live like 50 minutes outside Atlanta but have basically never had a good haircut out here, so I'd take the drive in if I could get something that awesome.

Hmm, interesting. I might try some size small short sleeve button-downs, then. One of the reasons I get short-sleeve ones is that they tend to be shorter in length than long-sleeve ones, and a lot of size medium button-downs are too damn long untucked for me (though size small sleeves tend to be way too constricting - alas, I don't have quite the money to get every shirt tailored :p).

The Repost: reddit app design exercise. Hold me... by cutcopyin webdesign

[–]popthatcorn 4 points5 points ago

This is certainly well-intentioned, and looks good, but is really obviously designed with a mouse in mind, not a finger.

Almost every tap target there is too small. The vote buttons, the menu options, the buttons that open the menus... it's all jammed together, and completely disregards the touch screen. I'm not sure if I could hit those buttons accurately, even if I just used my fingernail. I would suggest taking Alien Blue for a spin if you have an iPhone, or at least the official Twitter client or something similar, to see how you can use touch gestures to alleviate this issue - for example, many apps have a "swipe across" gesture that displays a menu for a list item. As it is, it's just too cramped.

Here's an example of a "swipe across" menu in Alien Blue, for an idea of what I'm talking about: http://cl.ly/2s2t3G180E170y292i3D

Hopefully this helps you on future mobile designs :)

It's free. It was five whole dollars when it first showed up on the Mac App Store after that launched, but it's free now.

Mac gaming's better now than it used to be, but yeah, it's still pretty bad. It's threefold: worse specs, slower drivers (OpenGL, ugh), and especially bad ports. I really appreciate that Valve has made Steam and Source for Mac, but it's a shame neither are at the quality of their PC counterparts. Mac App Store is full of 5-year old games getting ported and somehow still costing $40 (Call of Duty 4, lookin' at you).

The number of games that run better under bootcamp - and fuck, some even run better virtualized, and a handful probably even run better under WINE - is really disappointing.

(on the other hand, was happy to see that WoW, EVE, CS:S, and Civ 5 run really well on my Macbook Pro 13" with integrated graphics. Didn't even expect Civ 5 to run, but shit, it's pretty much actually playable!)

Anyways, you should try running Boot Camp'd TF2 if you haven't already and have Windows installed. Often works better.

Erm, do you really consider Apple a monopoly? Something like 5-10% of PCs, iOS covering maybe 40% of smart phones at most? Compared to supporting Microsoft, who have a far greater market share? Unless you're Linuxing up your laptop, in which case you do have the moral high ground here ;)

Anyways, I don't want to go too much into Apple defense in /r/gaming, but I will say that you do have to remember that you're buying more than specs. Screen quality, keyboard quality (chiclets are divisive, of course, but the size and layout are great), >>trackpad quality<<, design, etc. A lot of people seem to think that devices are all internals when comparing them - "oh, check out my new quad core Android tablet with a Tegra chipset" etc. - yet a device is so much more than what powers it. Not to open a whole 'nother can of worms, but it's generally accepted that until recently (Galaxy Nexus seems incredible), most Android phones did not have the same perceived speed as an iPhone - their specs were often higher, yet there was still more interface lag, longer bootup time, etc.

I never ever thought I'd touch an Apple computer until I decided I wanted a laptop, and realized that the Macbook Pro was exactly what I wanted, even if it was way more than I expected to spend. One nice thing about Macs is that their resale value is huge compared to your average PC, so if you can afford it up-front, you can probably sell it for half to 3/4 of the price four or five years down the road (if you don't believe me, look up used Mac Minis, iMacs, Macbook Pros, etc.).

Of course, their cables and accessories are still insanely, indefensibly overpriced, but that's another matter entirely, right? ;)
