Winnipeg Cyclists - Anyone out there do a weekly group ride? by sauzein Winnipeg

[–]plonce 1 point2 points ago

Hit me up peeps. I go on a once-weekly garbage pick ride in East Kildonan during the spring/summer/fall.

I bring beers and a cooler and enjoy maximum relaxation and refreshment.

I rarely get anything meaningful, but it's a form of proactive freecycling and its out of the heat and stickiness of summer which makes me go nuts.

Ever heard of Kijiji? /r/Winnipeg is not a classified site nor a services/product-referral forum.

getting a job is not as easy as some people might think.

Quit apologizing for parasites. You only need to show up on time to get a job. Jobs are aplenty in this city.

There's a place on Ellice where if you're there at 6AM you get hired for the day and paid cash, no questions asked.

Who cares what she paid for them? If she's asking market value and people are willing to pay, she's not scamming anybody and has carved out a little piece of fuck-the-man for herself.

Yeah, you did get scammed.

A person that is fully qualified to work bilked you out of $5 because he had a creative tale and doesn't feel like working.

I know this is weird but is there any haunted place in winnipeg? by Jatikin Winnipeg

[–]plonce 0 points1 point ago

There is no such thing as haunted.

The idea that something could be haunted by ghosts is a childish fantasy.

Please prove me wrong with peer-reviewed scientific studies.

A bunch of people crashing around in the woods and abandoned buildings spooking themselves does not a credible organization make.

I'm into this, didn't know it had a movement or a name.

I have tamper-proof bits of all kinds in my house and fix everything I can.

The unfortunate part is that almost 95% of things are engineered to be unfix-able by design. The most recent example of this was a coffee pot I had that was intentionally designed to filter condensation into the heart of the unit, causing rust after a few years.

Another time I decided to fix a $110 Oral B electric toothbrush by replacing the $1.50 Ni-Cad battery. Of course, the thing was designed such that if you opened the battery compartment, the thing completely exploded and could never be put together again. Again, this design was obviously intentional; a few small design modifications would have made the brush repairable for 40 years.

Yeah, you can try to fix things, but 95% of the time the device is designed to die or to explode upon opening.

So in your stunning display of non-logic, you've concluded that my points are invalid because you don't read novels.

Reply if you feel the need, but I'm not carrying this conversation any further since a) You don't actually want to discuss it honestly and; b) You seem to have little ability to think and reason.

Its not a matter of being able to read it or not, it's that it takes much, much longer to read than more legible fonts. Would you like to read a 900 page novel printed in Comic Sans?

Chimpanzees and orangutans really do have personalities "like people", researchers say. For years experts have debated whether great apes truly display human-like personalities - or if such behaviour is simply the anthropomorphic projections of human observers. by DrJulianBashirin science

[–]plonce 0 points1 point ago

Well, when we study the brains of various animals vs humans, we can see that humans have components that are missing in other animals.

Our brains are very similar in structure, but we have more parts that are capable of different things.

So it's no surprise to "discover" that animals have emotions, but there are higher-order functions that simply are not present in the brains of other animals.

Unfortunately, that's not how the scientific process works.

In science you don't form an opinion and then assume it's true until proven otherwise. You can't prove a negative.

It's like the ridiculous religious people saying that God exists because I can't prove otherwise. It's backwards thinking.

But like you, I don't appreciate the childish sense of astonishment that comes with these articles, as though we are completely fucking baffled to find out that cows have feelings too.

Honestly, I just don't think you've ever had a quality cake so you have no method of comparison.

If you ate a quality cake made with real butter and real cream you would never touch a Jeannies cake for the rest of your life.
