TROPHY CASE

What gender stereotype(s) do you hate the most? by sexiibitchin AskReddit

[–]pentium4borg 0 points1 point ago

My girlfriend and I usually split everything. 2 checks or just 2 cards to split 1 check when we go out. It actually works pretty well, most servers figure it out with no confusion.

There's an arrow for that.

I got yelled at by the cops for taking this picture, so they can suck my freedom of press. (x-post from /r/pics) by acuteindifferencein Bad_Cop_No_Donut

[–]pentium4borg 0 points1 point ago

Maybe so, but looking at police in a regular manner and taking pictures can't be criminalized without a Constitutional amendment.

(yes, I get the joke)

Seattle Police parking illegally? I'm shocked, shocked.

If you can get cruiser numbers in your pictures and write down the time and date, file a complaint with OPA. At least there will be a record and it will cause some paperwork for the officers involved.

During jury duty, a prospective juror for a criminal trial actually told the judge, "If you're accused, you're guilty." Another one said "I think he did it." This was before we heard anything about the case. Does anyone have any good stories involving jury duty? by swifty3in AskReddit

[–]pentium4borg 0 points1 point ago

I am not a lawyer, and I wouldn't mind being on a jury either. The price for registering to vote is occasionally serving on a jury. If I were selected, I would not try to get out of it and I would do the job to the best of my ability. It's only fair to the defendant.

No problem. Sorry, I didn't mean to make it sound like I was upset at the mods, my question was directed at OP who was obviously spamming. My comment was just to show you guys why I reported the submission.

Surprise door strategy: to swerve or smack? by lamoixin bicycling

[–]pentium4borg 5 points6 points ago

I can't stress this enough, staying out of the door zone avoids this situation completely.

Sometimes people open doors and while they aren't an immediate danger, it's still surprising, annoying, and illegal (in WA). I have a tendency to close suddenly-opened doors or doors that are left open as I ride by.

Why is this here?

  • Avoid soliciting your services - please report folks who are doing this so we can remove their posts.

My work is bike friendly! These signs/laws need to be everywhere. (Maryland, USA) by moosetenderin bicycling

Or except where there is no law ... in WA there is no minimum space requirement.

In other news, I need to make a few phone calls to my elected officials.

Cars have day time running lights to attract attention cause it works. On a bike you are way smaller. Do you run your lights in the day time? by sleeptypingin bicycling

[–]pentium4borg 1 point2 points ago

I always use my lights. I have redundant lighting both front and back, and they all flash independently, so I like to think I'm pretty visible.

It's only batteries folks, stay safe.

Not only are they batteries, they're rechargeable batteries that cost 4 cents to recharge.

Use your lights, kids.

I would attract the drivers attention

I have a mental image of you riding a bike with a top hat and monocle, tapping on a driver's window and saying "Pardon me sir, may I trouble you for the brief favor of your attention?"

People get really upset sometimes when you touch their cars, so I don't do it unless:

  • The driver was a jackass and I catch up with them at the next light. Usually I knock on their back window and either give them the finger or yell at them. (I define jackass as actively threatening my safety.)
  • It's a parked car and the driver opens the door or has left their door open into the area where I'm riding, in which case I'll just close the door.

"DEADHEAD" Bus --- Does anyone know what this is? by usquebaughin Seattle

[–]pentium4borg 2 points3 points ago

I'm surprised the bus actually said "Deadhead" instead of either "[Insert] Base" or "Training Coach / No Passengers."

520 toll late fee 'does not fit the crime,' says penalized driver by russ_walkerin Seattle

[–]pentium4borg 12 points13 points ago

I think this problem would be solved if WSDOT were to send the second and any following notices that tolls are due wither by Certified Mail or with delivery confirmation, and not charging drivers a late fee until they ignore the second bill. I know it would cost more, but then WSDOT would have irrefutable proof that these bills are being ignored and not just lost.

A child showed my underwear to a shop today. by Erimenesin childfree

[–]pentium4borg 6 points7 points ago

You're a bigger person than me. If kids come in my vicinity and touch me or my things without permission I would probably kick the kids in the face. (Or maybe the parents, since they're really the ones to blame.)

Which credit card offers the best frequent flyer program? by vaporizorin personalfinance

[–]pentium4borg 1 point2 points ago

If you know you will have the money to pay it off, and you have a budget, etc. then you can make it work. I'm not saying it's impossible, it's just that a lot of people take advantage of the 0% offers to buy consumer junk and then forget about the interest hike.

If you've got a budget and a plan, go ahead and try it if you'll save some money.

Road cycling veterans, how do you avoid tragedy with so many bad drivers out there? Please share your tips and experiences. by thesupermutantin bicycling

[–]pentium4borg 1 point2 points ago

Rearview mirror. Use one.

I've been considering this, but I feel that it would just unnecessarily raise my blood pressure if I could see cars tailgating me all the time. If an idiot does come up and hit me from behind, it doesn't seem that I could do much to avoid it anyway.

I do the same, I don't like to be next to a car for any length of time because there's a good chance they will turn or otherwise merge and hit you.

If a driver does try that with me though, they're going to end up with tinnitus.

Also id like something that offer 0% apr for a year or so. Id really appreciate someone helping me out with this.

You really shouldn't carry any balances. How do you know you're going to have the money to pay a card off later? You're in school now, do you have a job lined up?
