True story: On Dec 21st was going to be my last exam for advanced physics. In reading the time and room (which I did multiple times) I would miss the row and hence showed up a day later than the exam. The room was empty .. the halls were without footsteps and you could hear the batteries in the emergency lights charging.

I thought i had been massively pranked (still not thinking it was my fault of course) walked to the physics department secretary and demanded to know what happened to the exam. "That was yesterday", she said. My heart, GPA and possibility for honors sank right through the floor. "Prof. Weizmann also already left just 5 minutes ago for christmas break, you just missed him".

I ran down the stairs, over the yard to the car park for faculty ... these were days before email ... and there was - I kid you not - a saab idling with papers on the roof and the professor de-icing the windscreen. I got there and he looked very surprised not at all recognizing me (was a biggish class).

I explained but he had to go home he said. It was christmas break. "So I failed then?", "Yes you did". I tried to reason and he just took the papers put them in the car. closed the door and was about to drive away in the mist, snow and nasty drizzle. then he stopped. honked the horn. i walked up - he handed me an empty paper and said: "you didn't cheat, or see this from anyone - mans honor?" "Of course not" ... "take the exam. hand it in to the secretary in 2 hours sharp. merry christmas"

I was so out of it that i had the hardest time concentrating but I did pass the test and the class and did eventually get my cum laude. It was a lucky day.
