TROPHY CASE

Buddhist comment flair, we'd like some flair too! by JoNeum42in Christianity

[–]outsider 0 points1 point ago

Earbucket is correct. I've done the bulk of them. captainhaddock got some of the images looking nice and offered up some that I hadn't had on the list beforehand and rainer511 had also added a handful.

Basically they need to fit within a 25x25px area and ideally not be something which is confusable with multiple religions (like Aum and Buddhism and Hinduism) and isn't so generic as to be so broad reaching (like a Bible for Jehovah's Witnesses). The part that takes the most time for me is just getting them added to the spritesheet because I'm normally on my netbook which doesn't have decent image editing software on it and even if it did the trackpad as opposed to mouse would just be an irritant. There are also 4 entries in the CSS for each flair but that takes almost no time to do since it can mostly be done with lightly altering some copy pasted CSS.

When I add images to it I make sure they allow for transparency, remove any background color, and then have to line it up on the 25px segments of the spritesheet.

Before I had added some of the recent ones in, a user wanted the St. Clements cross and actually did all that work him or herself and so I added it without having to do the image editing aspect. Overall this is one of those things where it is more efficient timewise to have a handful of flair to add all at once but that doesn't mean that single flair images can't get added either.

Six historical arguments for Jesus' resurrection by rustylegsin Christianity

Yup, you're mad that multiple sources corroborated the claims. You're a bit denser than I'd care to go forward with. Have fun moving the goal posts so much. Eventually you'll find yourself unable to fool yourself as you move them yet again.

They weren't writing the same book, they were writing individual accounts which later got compiled into one book. Beyond that are you really complaining that they agreed with each other? It's literally different sources and if you fail to understand that it is intentional or due to ignorance and ignorance is becoming less and less viable an option at this point.

So then you really are trying to change your argument. First you wanted multiple sources. Than you wanted multiple other sources.

There is, in my opinion, a huge difference in scientific studies using other scientific studies as sources, and someone translating what someone wrote of what someone else once told people.

This is nothing more than moving the goal posts or changing the argument. You went from criticizing using the Bible to justify the Bible to (I think ) translation issues. If John references Paul it is different than John referencing John to justify John. Each book of the Bible is its own individual document, the Bible is merely a collection of them which is why I referred to a journal which is comprised of different individual documents.

The Bible is a compilation of many sources. Consider an article in Science will sometimes reference an article in Science.

The "Marginalization" of the Christian Right. by GoMustardin Christianity

I am frankly glad that religion is getting disentangled from right-wing politics. A lot of times when people target religion it seems they really have a problem with the politics they see in it. Good riddance to the politics of the "moral majority."

What was your Oregon public school experience like? by ullr96in oregon

[–]outsider 0 points1 point ago

I was in GATE in a school in Rodeo, CA for 2nd grade before moving away. It was rad. We made electrical circuits, dismantled and reassembled mechanical clocks, and got to do way more than normal classes. I also didn't get in trouble in GATE classes for writing in cursive.

Ashland High School, class of 1998... Sort of.

First person expelled for zero tolerance, had a glass of wine at dinner, went to a football game an hour later. Also went to an alternative high school which lost 2 years worth of credits or so of about 2/3 of the students. I still almost graduated (early even) until someone stole my backpack which had the culmination of a years worth of schoolwork in it. School administrators didn't care at all and later refused to let me enroll since I was going to be 18 during the school year. Oh I was also homeless for most of high school.

Teachers were pretty decent overall though when they were teachers outside the standard curriculum. History teachers were bland (though I seem to have had a better history education than many others), math teachers in every level failed me and would never sit down and show me how to even do long-division. That became a problem in college and I'm now auditing math classes again even with a M.S.

This began happening just as Ashland basically started to become a retirement community.

I maintained a 3.5 - 3.7 GPA but most administrators seemed to really dislike me even while some teachers really stuck their necks out for me more than anyone else ever had (so did a vice-principal). I'd fire the crap out of some of those administrators.

So telling you things explicitly doesn't work. Good to know. No one needs to waste time with you here anymore do they?

You know what, I've got another couple of mods right now getting on my case for moderating too much, I've got you saying I'm not moderating enough, I've got the community policy which I moderate according to regardless of you or them. I have had my fill of your nonsense. If you want to act so often in ways detrimental to healthy discourse you'll find your posting privileges revoked. Not for criticizing moderators or how we moderate but because frankly I can't see anything other than a really irritating Poe in you out to make Christians look like a bunch of petulant fanatics who freak out about the smallest of grievances. Use the report button if you want us to mod something and understand that we may or may not agree with you. When I get your commentary on something all I want to do is forget I ever wasted time reading something that used so many words to say so little and it greatly impacts my capacity for objectivity with regards to you. Everything you write to us is accusatory and generally baseless.

Take it up with the other mods if you want even more moderation.

Sure. If it's moderator stuff the quickest way to get a mod's attention is to click the "Message the moderators" link on the sidebar.

Swearing isn't against the rules. Why? Because we're adults. Look I'd prefer that people avoided swearing and I'd prefer people avoided many other things. I've removed posts which were nothing but swearing and the reason why is that they detract from conversation and create an environment in which the ability to achieve healthy recourse is retarded. Occasional swearing does not impede discussion and in some cases it may highlight an emotional aspect that is otherwise lost in text.

We still remove image macros but we won't pretend we see them all and on that rule there are aspects of it which are poorly defined. Not all images are barred either. This is one which we will typically enforce based more on the spirit than the static text of the rule.

Also, what are the automated tools we have available? I'd love to have some degree of automation.

And lastly, if you dislike it, leave. We aren't going to upend our moderation policies and practices based on a disgruntled user who spent years trolling the rest of reddit as LouF and in doing so negatively impacting this subreddit.

Check out r/atheism in archive.org when they had a subscriber base similar to ours and see if there is a qualitative difference. I think there is, but I haven't checked the web archives for this.

You made it sound like these things were happening all the time, and were the main points of the submission.

No, I said it happened regularly. There's a difference. I'm obviously dealing with someone who has difficulty reading. try r/hookedonphonics.

...killing Christians seems reasonable until we even out the count.

The difference between you and me is that behavior like that isn't something I defend whether it is sourced from a Christian or an atheist. You however are happy to defend it so long as it comes from an atheist.

Because it refutes your points. Thank you for ceding.

No it's because you were unable to address points without being an idiot. Preferring to not engage an idiot in his idiocy doesn't grant an idiot a 'win'.

Referring? Please provide a citation for that image. Referring does nothing when backing up your claim.

Scientism. Basically universally mocked in academia.

You provided no evidence to what I originally asked evidence for. Deal with it yourself. You made the statement which is now blatantly obvious you have no capability of providing proof towards.

You're acting as though the truth of it is determined by reddit's crappy search engine and the propensity for /r/atheism to use images rather than plain text or my lack of foresight in not keeping track of submissions like that which I'd frankly rather not even see.

Now feel free to rage impotently some more.

I thought I was clear in asking for a citation to back that claim up. You simply failed to produce one.

You're right, I provided several.

Ignoring the rest of your grandstanding...

I quite simply asked you to provide a citation for a claim you made, you could not. Im sorry you are limited in your search capabilities. But at this point, I just don't believe you. There is no proof you have provided to back up your claim. Sorry!

I gave several which showed essentially the same thing and did end up referring you to the image by the text in it. And I did provide evidence that such things happen. Deal with it. You're arguing not the binary of if it but the degree of it.
