As much as I would like to believe that Twitter is doing the right thing for everyone's privacy, I am more likely to believe they are doing this because it has repercussions for them as a company. By stating in their terms and conditions that tweets are the sole owner of the user they are able to push the blame and responsibility back to the user. Effectively what this decision is saying is it doesn't matter what your terms and conditions say, you are responsible for the content on your site meaning should this precedent be set, Twitter would have to monitor what their users say and remove certain things if they are deemed inappropriate.

I don't endorse illegal activity over VPN's, they are there to protect you and your data. If you are using a VPN in the first place my points are just there to get the most out of them and to protect yourself.

It might not be incriminating on its own however with other information it is. They keep logs. This is on the Tunnelr website, these types of things are huge red flags.

However we will fully cooperate with a government agency in regards to any use of our service that is deemed illegal in the country in which the server resides. Our services are not intended to be used to commit crimes.

Privacy.io currently only offer PPTP which is an outdated and very insecure protocol. If you are going to use a VPN service make sure they offer good enryption over OpenVPN.

Yes, the fact that logs are kept in the first place causes concern. Tunnelr is a VPN service based in the U.S where logging is the law. Even services that are in privacy friendly countries admit that they have to log when providing a VPN in the U.S.

Here are my basic rules when using a VPN service:

Where is the service based and do they have better privacy laws?
Read the service privacy policy. Do they log everywhere or only when using a VPN server in the U.S?
Use a VPN service that accepts bitcoin. When paying with bitcoin use TOR to pay.
Never use a credit or debit card.
Only use a service that offers SSL Encryption over OpenVPN. PPTP is very insecure and an out dated protocol.

You should not be using a VPN service based in the U.S. Use a service in a country where the privacy laws are better like Sweden or Germany.
