DAE get annoyed when people use the word "the" on words that don't need it? by krucifydin DAE

[–]ohdelight 1 point2 points ago

I am an AZ native (Phoenix, specifically), and every single person I know, including myself, will say the 10 (I-10), the 202 (rt 202), the 101 (loop 101), etc. In fact, I don't know if I've ever heard anyone say otherwise, even on news reports.

I just got a letter telling me to appear in court. by austin123457in AskReddit

[–]ohdelight 5 points6 points ago

I don't know why more people haven't said this.

I didn't have proof of insurance on me and I received a notice to attend court shortly after. Showed up, showed the judge my insurance, he dropped it and I left. No fees, no hassle. This was in Oregon, though. It may be different in other states.

i would swing on the swing set in my childhood backyard and convince myself the grass was a sea of alligators, jump off the swing, and book it in to the house as fast as possible.

Okay, I'll give you part of that. 19th ave and anything south of Indian School is terrifying and 19th ave and anything North of Dunlap gets pretty nice. 19th ave and Dunlap is to be feared.

Oh, man. Let me link you to a picture of the birth announcement my father sent out when I was born (yeah, back when people actually sent birth announcements out).

That's funny, because I've heard from a lot of non-natives say that the "ghettos" of Phoenix don't really match up. In fact, my roommate (who is from San Diego) said that he doesn't think Phoenix has a ghetto... which is preposterous. Regardless, 19th avenue no matter where you are in Phoenix, will forever be the ass crack.

Unfortunately, I think most of the schools can say something similar. I went to North for a while and just found out the other day that their state-wide renowned photo department is on its way out. Bummer.

I don't know if 'nazis' is really fair, but every friend I've had that went to Ingleside, Coronado, Arcadia, or otherwise has affirmed they're mostly filled with a bunch of rich druggies.

Just like most of the greater Phoenix area, there are good patches and bad patches of where PUSD covers. As a general rule, West Phoenix kind of scares me, and I don't spend much time over in Glendale... but that's mostly because I don't live anywhere close to where PUSD is. I realize it would be hard since you're currently not in the state, but I recommend taking a walk around any school you are going to be putting your kids in, especially in Phoenix. The schools here are so hit and miss that, if you have time to spare before you decide, I think it would be worth it.

And, even though you already said you preferred public schooling, I REALLY recommend Montessori schools. I attended one here in Phoenix from grades 1-8 and I honestly can say I wouldn't be who I am today without the awesome education I got from it.

Edit: I say 'Montessori Schools,' but some are charter, public, and private. I just recommend Montessori schooling in general.

I was in the process of writing my reply before I saw this response. THIS. Any of the Desert Ridge communities are awesome and have great schools. My niece and nephew are in them and I've been super impressed.

I have worked in and out of the valley in numerous schools as a teacher's aid and you would be smart to avoid throwing a kid in the majority of Phoenix's public schools. I second what GuatemalnGrnade said. If you're going to be working in North Phoenix, Paradise Valley School District is really nice. It is a huge district and nudges up to the Deer Valley area in North Phoenix, but is in the northeast as opposed to the west, which is mostly DVUSD. I don't know what age your child(ren) is or if you even have kids yet, but if I were brave enough to put my kid in a public school within Phoenix city limits (I'm a product of multiple of them-- I know how horrible they are), I'd stick to North Phoenix or any of the other cities you mentioned above.

I saw this post a couple of hours ago, read the title, clicked on the picture, then cringed again at "gun" and continued on Redditing.

Came across it again now, loved this comment, and loved how you handled it even more, OP. Way to take it like a man.

Also, nice work.
