Before the MP3 era, I would troll used record shops for cheap CDs, or make a cassette tape dub from a friend who had the record. Neither of those actions gave the RIAA a dime, but they were easily over half my record purchases for many many years.

Legal on-line streaming is a terrific delivery mechanism whose time has come. It's a pity that the content providers are intent on screwing Netflix and Hulu customers in order to protect their cable revenue. I'd much rather have access to legal downloads or streaming.

Many people I know resort to piracy only when they can't find it for sale at any price (the Oatmeal argument.) So, please, MPAA, take my money.

So it's their fault you didn't read the warranty?

I admit Kindles are flimsy, but be honest with yourself. Did you have it in a case? Especially after it broke the first time? If it broke out of warranty, it's on you. Amazon might replace it, but unless you're a Amazon Prime member and/or spend a lot with Amazon, probably not.

EDIT: I just bothered to read the transcript and you're really off-base. The warranty is for a year. They replaced it within the year and the new device came with a 90 day warranty. Sounds legit to me.

"non-preachy self-help/inspirational" books are also okay.

The "War of Art" by Steven Pressfield. If you're a creative person, or want to be, this short book may change you life.

I just saw "The Girl Who Leapt Through Time." It's an anime and a pretty straight telling of a high school girl who discovers how to time travel.

I also recommend "Exam." It's one of those puzzle movies. Eight people are locked in a room at a very secretive company. They're given an exam with one question. The one who answers the question gets the job. It's pretty tense.

Speaking of tense, last night I just started watching "Coriolanus." If you like Shakespeare, you should check it out.

Saul Bellow once said: "With a novelist, like a surgeon, you have to get a feeling that you've fallen into good hands - someone from whom you can accept the anesthetic with confidence." What instantly breaks that confidence for you? by CheatasaurusRexin literature

Here are Elmore Leonard's ten tips for writing, ignore these at your peril.

  • Never open a book with weather.
  • Avoid prologues.
  • Never use a verb other than "said" to carry dialogue.
  • Never use an adverb to modify the verb "said”…he admonished gravely.
  • Keep your exclamation points under control. You are allowed no more than two or three per 100,000 words of prose.
  • Never use the words "suddenly" or "all hell broke loose."
  • Use regional dialect, patois, sparingly.
  • Avoid detailed descriptions of characters.
  • Don't go into great detail describing places and things.
  • Try to leave out the part that readers tend to skip.
  • My most important rule is one that sums up the 10: If it sounds like writing, I rewrite it. '

I didn't notice a big change. I mean, Mad Men has always played around with stuff, especially music. Does anyone else remember the video montage from Season 2.

I'm in an office right now where some folks keep a bottle in their desk. They usually wait until the end of the day before they have a drink. Takes the edge off a long train ride.

Don's relationship with Megan would be a lot better if he had a smartphone.

Watching Megan rip Don's head off after his uber-suave outing with Joan was like watching Superman fall back to earth...but then the xmas office speech...up up and away! by duckandcoverin madmen

They are three major plot points that telegraph what is happening in the story. If you knew these things would happen, they would impact your enjoyment of (ie: spoil) the show.
