TIL that Voyager 1 is close to entering inter-stellar space, exiting the field of the sun's effects and showing us what space is really like outside our solar system. by YettiRockerin todayilearned

You poor thing. Unfortunately, even with todays advances, there is still no cure for Alabama.

It takes the average U.S. worker nearly a month to make what the average CEO earns in an hour by twolf1in news

[–]nrbartman 0 points1 point ago

But as a whole, it's an entry level job that businesses racing for the bottom are willing to go cheap on....

Cringe...boy that sums it up huh.

Your comment is Randian nonetheless.

You're defending the wealthy by creating a fasle dichotomy between 'SUCCESSFUL' and 'POOR' even though there is no correlation between those two groups.

Being poor does not make you unsuccessful and being successful does not make you wealthy (or non-poor).

When you frame it that way it's an attempt to paint the non-poor as victims of 'success'. Which suggests that the more non-poor you are - the wealthier you are - the more of a victim you are of all the pathetic poor people charging at you with pitchforks.

The idea that the only way wealthy people ever acquire their wealth is by being successful flawed. Using flawed ideas in a comment that props up a false dichotomy between misclassified groups is very Randian.

But is there no advantage to attracting the very best loading dock workers by being a company known for it's above standard wages for such positions, or the effect that a good salary has on a loading dock employee's performance?

There's always going to be a million people willing to be paid a little less than the last guy in order to feed their kids. Using that as an excuse for why it's OKAY to keep suppressing wages is an old world approach written by those who have historically done the suppressing.

Well for one, you can be equal in your evaluations. If someone like gtriaw13 is going to make the point that low skill work is paid justifiably low wage, then there needs to be a similar point made about high skill CEO pay being UNjustifiably high.

If all is right with the world of the unskilled worker - they're getting what they work for - then by the same logic all is wrong with the world fo the CEO as they're getting much much more than their skill level.

Admitting there's a problem there is the first step to righting the imbalance.

So, they open the hatch to the Dragon tomorrow....I have a hunch that the SpaceX team put some sort of message or item on the inside of the hatch.

Any guesses as to what it might be?

Rusko gets taken to the hospital in Dallas May 23rd by csharp1990in dubstep

If you're from the UK, with their healthcare system, do you get coverage if you go to the ER in Dallas?

Or did he just run up a $12,000 ER bill?

Yeah, now it's like a publicist calls the booking agent ON MONDAY and says Client X is in NY for a tour date and the booking agent is like OH GREAT TIMING LETS GET THEM ON SNL ON SATURDAY and the publicist is like, THAT WILL WORK and then the host for that week shows up on Friday to rehearse skits they had no part in writing or concepting and instead of working hard at it they just show up the next night AND READ THE CUE CARDS.

My view is if they cut the length of their sketches by 2/3rd

Oh definitely this as well. I was just speaking in terms of cast/host dynamic, but this totally needs to happen also. There are only so many times Kenan Thompson can deliver the punch line or catch phrase in a single sketch. Right now its about 4x too many.

If SNL went back to funny hosts they'd have funny sketches. I'm sorry, but it will just never work to try and make non-funny people seem funny.

Or if they just got rid of hosts altogether and relied on the occasional guest appearance by a celeb so we could just get more sketches involving cast members doing what the cast members think is funny..... because... yknow... they're actually funny people.

For every episode with a Justin Timberlake or Will Farrell - good shows - there are 5 episodes with a Lindsay Lohan or a Taylor Lautner.

Lorne Michaels should be aware of this but for some reason the show still throws all of it's eggs in the basket of BIG NAMES SELL COMMERCIALS - and maybe that's a strategy that fools the people paying you ad revenue to show their commercials, but the general audience is more bored than entertained and there's no scenario in which dwindling viewership numbers outweigh 'BUT OUR GUEST TONIGHT IS POPULAR WITHT HE DEMOGRAPHIC!'.

What a fucking waste.

We call it ADVENTURE BOCCE!

Bonus: A variation of ADVENTURE BOCCE can be played using discs if you're looking to break up a day of disc golf.

I'm late to the party, but ADVENTURE BOCCE can be played anywhere, and you technically don't even need BOCCE balls - any round objects of equal size will do.

With real bocce balls though, just go to the park, toss the little white target somewhere (the more interesting the terrain the better - like hillsides and shrubbery) then take turns tossing each of your two BOCCE balls to see who can get closest.

Awesome game, takes you all over the park, and you can play it with an elbow bent, cold beer in hand.
