Assuming she was stranger to him, I don't see how the mayor saying "you should hire here" should in any way affect the decision of employer as it is nothing but a nice gesture on mayors part and tells the employer nothing about the potential employee. You don't believe in god even if the President speaks about him, and you are not scientologist even though Tom Cruise endorses it right? Famous person saying X is good does not mean X is actually good.
