Just looking at their tax receipts.... you can get a $200 tax receipt for donating a 17" monitor? I just bought a 23" monitor for $125!

CompuCorps

Edit: If you are donating any cisco routers/switches to somewhere that will sell them on, I'd love to know where..... am trying to get a couple of them to teach myself at home, and nowhere in Ottawa seems to sell them

Georgia police handcuff girl over tantrum - Six-year-old charged with assault and damage to property after she allegedly knocked over a shelf that injured headteacher by DrJulianBashirin news

[–]nobeastsofierce 0 points1 point ago*

To me, the obvious solution is to remove the child from the situation, physically remove them, and do not allow them to return until they have calmed down. The ridiculous part is that teachers can no longer do this.

On this point, in this situation, do you agree that the teacher should have been allowed/instructed to restrain the child? I don't know why you're being downvoted obviously, but I'd suggest it may be because you're saying the school was wrong to call the police without saying what should be done with a kid that is throwing things/pulling things off walls..... in a room full of other children. If the kid had injured another child, would that be the teachers fault?

EDIT:

Calling the cops, having my them handcuffed and charges pressed against them is the heaviest handed punishment you can give anyone. That is way worse than a "spanking".

I do agree. However you won't get sued for calling the police. Or at least if you are sued, you will win. No court of law will rule (in a civil suit) that calling the police is a bad thing

What bothers me the most, however, is that I'm on the internet... making a case for why cops should not be called when a small child has a temper tantrum... and I'm receiving down votes.

From what I can see, nobody is saying that the cops should be called in these situations. However somebody needs to be able to restrain a kid that is throwing things. If teachers can't do that (and I think they should be able to) for fear of litigious parents, then the cops will have to.

EDIT: It seems that nobody who is saying "This is terrible the teacher needs to be sued/fired" is offering any suggestion as to what should have happened.

A child who is throwing things/pulling things off walls is a child who needs to be restrained.

The reason this happens is teachers can't yell at kids any more or even insinuate punishment

Am pretty sure stan11003 gave two other solutions right there.

Teachers have been increasingly neutered over the past 15-20 years. Kids aren't stupid, they will push boundaries as far as they can

So, the school should have dealt with it? Should they be allowed discipline/restrain the child? (IMO, yes, they should)

Are you upset that the cops were involved, or that handcuffs were?

I did downvote your original post, since you're making the case that "they" (being the polish people) are in some way responsible for our current economic situation. When you say the graph speaks for itself, I'm not exactly sure what it was saying to you, but I suspect it may have been something different than what it said to me (not very much)

High levels of unemployment have always been a breeding ground for racism and xenophobia. I'm not accusing you of being either, just that your comment came across as both

on a more serious note... do you think Ireland acted too late with them jetting in to collect social welfare and f**k off back home on the same day... bastards no wonder we're in shit street as the graph speaks for itself...

on an equally serious note, do you have any source for this happening in anything other than a tiny handful of cases?

Obama: My son would look like Trayvon -- President Obama says that all Americans should take the shooting of unarmed teen Trayvon Martin seriously. [video] by Bemuzedin news

[–]nobeastsofierce 0 points1 point ago*

Yeah, i think we're on different paths. I was never referring to any kind of sanctioned fight, more somebody picks a fight with me while I'm walking home (like Trayvon).

And I absolutely agree. The story we're getting is that Zimmerman gets out of his car, and follows/confronts Martin (while armed)(and after the person at the other end of the 911 call told him not to). Unless that turns out to be factually incorrect, I really don't see how he can claim self-defence.

I was just responding to say that there is no reason that a 17 year old can't beat the hell (whether in self defence or otherwise) out of a 28 year old

Really? Consider two scenarios:

A) Two guys of unspecified weight. Both can run X miles (or do X pushups, or whatever measurement we want to use for fitness).

B) Two guys of unspecified fitness. Both weight X pounds.

Are you suggesting Scenario B will be the more equal fight?

Obviously, if you have two people of similar physical fitness (I do use the word loosely), such as in Boxing/MMA/etc, then weight will play a big role. But if you have somebody who is physically fit and somebody who isn't, but weighs 20/40/whatever lbs more..... my money is on the guy who is in shape.

Does anybody else find the lady that gives out the 24HRS newspapers at Bayview Station too aggressive? by gunnerheadboyin CarletonU

[–]nobeastsofierce 3 points4 points ago

No actually, I think she's very pleasant. She'd always say good morning, and thank you. Most mornings I don't take a paper (unless it's really cold, and I take one so she doesn't have to stand outside any longer than necessary) I never get any bad "vibes" for it.

She has a job to do, which is to actively distribute newspapers. I guess if somebody counts that as being aggressive, they should count themselves lucky that they don't have to deal with anyone worse.
