They seem talented, but the best part of Africa is the drums.

My Crucial M4 (OS drive) says "Good 99%" and my Samsung Spinpoint says "Good." I think this started happening around the same time that I flashed the new Crucial M4 Firmware, though. Should I reflash it?

[Troubleshooting] Computer Reboots Randomly (repost for the daytime crew) by WeeOooWeeOooin buildapc

I was having random reboots with no BSOD, and changing the RAM speed fixed them for me. memtest ran fine, too.

Clock your ram to 1333mhz and set your timings manually (to whatever the stock is). Fixed a similar problem for me. Apparently Sandy Bridge doesn't play nice with 1600mhz ram.

How can I make an image look a certain way with an editing program (image inside)? by xhunter94sin howto

[–]nistco92 1 point2 points ago*

Is this what you're looking for?

First, it's important to note that the lighting is directly from the side.

Image -> Mode -> Grayscale

Gaussian Blur

Enhance contrast (~100 in GIMP)

Adjust Brightness (~50 in GIMP for this example)

EDIT: If you want it exactly like the cover, you may want to adjust the color slightly, too.

Image -> Mode -> RGB

Colors -> Colorize

Hue: ~262
Saturation: ~26
Lightness: ~14

Image Line has produces a huge array of resources for free. Even their standard manual is top-notch. Their "getting started guide" and youtube channel are fantastic, as well. Separately, warbeats also produces quality free videos on FL Studio.

If I want to budget $500/yr for computers, should I build a $500 computer every year, a $1000 one every 2 years, a $1500 one every 3 years, etc? by rmxzin buildapc

[–]nistco92 4 points5 points ago

Build a $1000 computer. After 2 years, upgrade to a current $500 graphics card. A year later, build another $1000 computer, (and repeat). You'll be averaging $500/yr and will blow most games away most years.

Alternatively, build a $1000 computer, a year later, SLI/Crossfire your graphics card for $X, the year after that buy a new $(500-X) graphics card, and build a new $1000 computer in your fourth year (and repeat).

You may want to consider an SSD to make the performance a lot snappier. I know it's a considerable expense, but in terms of real-world gains, it's probably the best value.

Those are great monitors, especially for the price. I think you'll be happy with them.

How do you guys feel about MSI cards? by DefaultPlayerin buildapc

[–]nistco92 2 points3 points ago

I think there are some tradeoffs between MSI and EVGA. Namely, MSI cards generally run cooler (especially the Twin Frozr series), but EVGA has a lifetime warranty.

Also, after they're installed, use symlinks to migrate the folders and free up space on the SSD.
