Capitalize that 'i'. It's a proper noun.

Thought Setoguchi's shootout biff would be #1 as I clicked the link, was not disappointed.

That said, he's my favorite Wild player. After that, Setoguchi went something like 3 for 3 shootout attempts to end the season. He plays with a lot of heart even though he was cursed: traded a day after signing a 3-yr extension, got hit by a car while in a building, and plays for a subpar team while relatively carrying his own weight. What sucks is this year was the first one in the last three where he didn't score 20 goals. He scored 19.

No, I'm saying that assumed deterrence is irrelevant to the fact of their incompetence.

You can postulate that, fine, but similarly, it seems pretty silly to me. You'd think in 10+ years, they would have actually stopped a real attack, but no, TSA failed twice to stop explosives from getting on a plane and it was left up to the passengers to defend themselves. They are a documented failure since their inception.

A problem of silent evidence?

Not a chance. If they actually stopped something, they'd publicize the hell out of it. At the very least, we'd see media coverage of a trial. Remember the shoe bomber? The underwear bomber? Both were stopped by passengers on the plane, both were all over the news, and both went to trial.

Those aren't necessarily free either. In my home state of Minnesota, there is a fee. It's small, but still a poll tax.

Reducing dramatic prison costs with minimal affect on prisoner conditions? Clearly I'm the one whose ignorant.

Everything I've found shows no real reduction in costs and if any it's certainly not "dramatic". Where are you getting this "dramatic" reduction from?

whose parties senators were the ones who kept voting against the Civil Rights Acts

That's a massive oversimplification. The vote was split by region, and at the time, the Democrats owned the south. Once LBJ signed the act into law, he is said to have said "We've just lost the south for a generation". And it's been deep red Republican ever since. *Note that the Democrats who voted against the Civil Rights Act of 1964 changed to "Dixiecrats".

tl;dr: a white-out when the away team wears white is an absolutely retarded idea.

So all white-outs are absolutely retarded since pretty much every away team wears white. I'm not sure I agree with you a hundred percent on your police work, there, Lou.

Birth control in the LDS church by univegain lds

[–]neosapien 0 points1 point ago*

Not sure this was discussed elsewhere in the thread, but then were to GC talks come in? Having two conferences a year, for many years, there is a wealth of wisdom. But how much of that is just "I think" and not Truth? I suppose this is where agency/HG comes in? I'm an ex-mormon, but one of the things that bothered me a great deal was a couple conferences ago, incidentally the last conference I watched as a believing member, the 14 Fundamentals of Following the Prophet came up in more than one talk. It bothered me a lot -- no need to go into why, but the fact that it did was part of the impetus to bail. How much of this is Ezra Taft Benson's good-natured thoughts and not God's real truth, same as Joseph F. Smith's above? Seems there are probably a lot of examples of this, too.

Speaking of that talk: How we reconcile:

Sixth: The prophet does not have to say “Thus saith the Lord” to give us scripture ... the Lord says of the Prophet, “Thou shalt give heed unto all his words and commandments which he shall give unto you.” (D&C 21:4.)

Birth control in the LDS church by univegain lds

[–]neosapien 0 points1 point ago

A lot of people aren't prophets. I guess my point is, it makes sense that some members are confused on this doctrine since it has changed relatively recently and quietly. "Thus saith the Lord" or the like is nowhere to be found in a lot of doctrinal statements -- The Proclamation on the Family, for example.

49 NASA Scientists Dispute Global Warming by LibsrPusin Conservative

[–]neosapien 1 point2 points ago

Generally, engineers != scientists. Also, if someone is a climate or meteorological scientist, they wouldn't refer to themselves an engineer. This is speaking as someone who is an engineer and has worked for NASA. This doesn't discount their sentiment, but it does call bullshit on the title of the article. It's also interesting that all of the signatures on the letter come from a single NASA center out of several.

[–]neosapien 7 points8 points ago

Looking at the signature list, I don't see a lot of scientists there. Lots of engineers and managers. A few astronauts.

(EDIT: and they're all apparently from one NASA center -- Johnson Space Center)
