30%+ drop off its peak in three days of trading is the definition of "tanking."

VGK. Europe is not nearly as bad as the hysterics on CNBC paint it. Beside most companies held in VGK are not even in the Eurozone.

It makes no sense because those aren't funds you can use in retirement. Yes I know about reverse mortgages but it's a scam and daylight robbery.

Does it include the equity locked up in the primary residence? If yes then the situation is awful.

Dear redditors, what's the most common error that foreigners do cooking your country dishes? by MrGestorein Cooking

[–]neoabraxas 6 points7 points ago

Polish cuisine is poorly known around the world. But those who do know a bit about it often think of pierogi. Yeah, we do eat them but never with potatoes inside. That's the Russian recipe. Polish pierogi tend to be stuffed with meat and onions or cabbage and mushrooms. Czechs have pierogi stuffed with fruits. To be honest the Russian version (potatoes and cheese) is the least tasty in my opinion but seems the most popular in stores probably because it's the cheapest one to make.

We need a queen sized mattress that isn't going to break the bank or our backs. Help! by Nomnombunnyin Frugal

[–]neoabraxas 0 points1 point ago*

Ghetto mattresses (i.e. from low cost furniture stores) are actually no worse for your back than super expensive ones. In fact the opposite is true. The stiffer the mattress the healthier your back is going to stay. So go ahead and buy a new mattress from a discount store. It won't be plush but will likely serve you just as long as a 1000 dollar one but will also save your back as a bonus.

I'm sorry to say but inventing better armor sounds really pathetic compared to the inventions of say, classical Greece. They had a model steam engine working back then.

Just set up a portfolio that is balanced. hold 25% broad stock equity index, 25% long term treasuries, 25% gold and 25% cash. Rebalance yearly to the above allocation and don't worry about timing the market. People have been predicting the death of treasuries for the last 20 years. It will happen at some point but probably not on your timetable. Timing the market is futile.

You're aiming too low. We are in a great bull market and it is nowhere near over. Forget penny stocks. Learn how to pick great penny stock options and learn how to buy them at the right time. With a carefully chosen portfolio,a big stomach for risk, and some impeccable market timing, you should be able to achieve 1200-8000% gains per year.

I recommend the Permanent Portfolio. 25% Total stock market, 25% cash, 25% long term bonds and 25% gold/precious metals. Here's one simple way to implement this with ETFs:

25% VTI

25% SHY

25% TLT

20% GLD

5% SLV

Why such a strange allocation? This is a somewhat controversial portfolio (mostly because of the precious metals part) but it has held up very well during all kinds of economic climates and does not experience big drawdowns. Good for conservative investors and achieves returns close to those of a pure stocks portfolio without the volatility.
