Untethered iOS 5.1.1 jailbreak for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch now available by redkemperin technology

[–]neilpomerleau 2 points3 points ago

See froli007's comment. It does, however, also mean you can tether your device to share your internet connection from AT&T. There are apps in Cydia that let you do this, such as TetherMe.

They were custom first-gen iPhones with a giant board in the back for outputting video to the projectors. That's why they bulge in the back.

What is the reason behind disliking the sound of your own voice when you hear it in a recording? by IvyVineLinein askscience

[–]neilpomerleau 2 points3 points ago

In terms of familiarity, it has a lot to do with the mere exposure effect. We tend to prefer that with which we are familiar. Ask people to choose between a photograph of themselves and its reflection, and they will tend to prefer the reflection. This is because we are more familiar with our mirror image. Friends and family, on the other hand, will prefer the unreflected image. Likewise, we're more familiar with the way our voice sounds internally rather than externally, whereas others would be likely to dislike the way we hear ourselves if somehow given the opportunity.

I'll take careless mistakes over their usually deliberate misinformation any day.

By the way, who watches Fox News all day, frame-by-frame, to catch these things?

SOPA, PIPA, and now OPEN. A lot of people say it's a much softer blow, but I still believe it's a big hit for future start-ups by Toastypartyin technology

It's funny how they chose the acronym OPEN to describe a bill that would make the internet less open.

Why in every apple comercial, the time on the iphone always has 41 minutes on it? by illuminatiduckin apple

[–]neilpomerleau 1 point2 points ago

Not every keynote starts at 10. Press events tend to start at 10, while event kickoffs for Macworld and WWDC start earlier at 9, so as not to waste the day.

I believe they used 9:42 up to the 3GS, then changed it to 9:41 for the iPhone 4 and 4S.

Attention to detail: "We design the (product launch) keynotes so that the big reveal of the product happens around 40 minutes into the presentation. When the big image of the product appears on screen, we want the time shown to be close to the actual time on the audience's watches. But we know we won't hit 40 minutes exactly." -Scott Forstall

Can anyone confirm this? I'm away in Italy with a 4S and would love to use a SIM card from here.

I have two drives in my MBP. My 240 GB SSD has the OS, apps, and most files. My 1 TB HDD is split into a 760 GB partition for storage of large files and a 240 GB partition for nightly bootable backups of the SSD (Carbon Copy Cloner). You wouldn't believe how handy an on-board backup is. The SSD and 760 GB partition are backed up to an external with Time Machine as well.

Has any one here met Steve Jobs? by Armand9xin apple

I met him after the Macworld 2008 keynote. I had won a free VIP pass, so I was right up front for the whole thing. Afterward, I was lucky enough to be in his path as he was saying hello to friends and Apple VIPs.

I snapped this picture of him hugging John Lasseter, right in front of me: http://i.imgur.com/F5R1g.jpg

Here's a picture someone else took from the other angle (I'm right behind John): http://i.imgur.com/o9MzJ.jpg

And then I managed to meet him for myself. All I could think to do was shake his hand and say, "It's an honor to meet you." In his classic brevity, he just replied, "Okay, thanks."
