You have a small amount of money and you probably want to beat the market. Wait. Start buying blue chips (big companies) in January. Put your money in two companies that are in different sectors.

That is not how it works. A company can still operate even if their stock is worth a penny. They'd be delisted, yeah, but nothing would fundamentally change.

During times of starvation your body feasts on itself. Your fat is used, and if that's not available, your muscles are atrophied and broken down for calories. The human body is incredibly efficient at energy conservation. You can survive a month without eating. You'll sooner die of dehydration.

A lot of people from Digg decided to settle into Reddit. But they have that Digg mentality still. They don't upvote/downvote things based on quality. They just compete. They submit something and then downvote everything else, which sort of widens the gyre.

We have to keep in mind that every book has a different purpose. However, there are about three general purpose, according to John Hodgman:

1) Inform You - E.g. The Zombie Survival Guide

2) Give You a Message - E.g. 1984

3) Entertain You - E.g. Twilight

This book falls into the latter. It's just entertainment. So what if it's popular? It's pop.
