TROPHY CASE

LGBT: A serious question. Why do you need the "L" -- doesn't the "G" cover it? by fulhamin lgbt

[–]mrcloudies 0 points1 point ago

Because technically gay is male homosexuals, and lesbian is female homosexuals.

Since lesbian and gay are two sides of the same coin. It's just like boy and girl, its to tell the two apart.

We could start saying homosexual man, and homosexual woman, but there are conveniences to having two separate words. As Viciousandempowering mentioned.. If you search homosexual you get both, you search gay you get guys, you search lesbian you get girls. It limits your searches, therefor its easier to have different words for identifiers.

GAP under fire from One Million Moms for pro-gay advertising campaign - Mirror Online by hchriste17in lgbt

They still use, Microsoft and Apple, who both begged One Million Moms to boycott them.

They boycott the companies that they already don't shop at, or is easy to stop. It's harder to boycott computers, even if they are the most vocal supporters to LGBT rights.

We've got a Gay Marriage Poll to Fix [x-post from atheism] by ikonoclasmin lgbt

[–]mrcloudies 1 point2 points ago

Its actually really depressing.. Just look at how big some of those red areas are.. Why do they care so much? What are they defending?

Such cruelty still alive and well in America today. Though i do live in a blue area, so yay for that i suppose.

I have no idea why some people, even among the LGT community, have trouble understanding bisexuality.. How is someone being attracted to both genders a difficult concept to grasp?

They have worked at times though. So i think it's still worthwhile to vote in them. (After all, its not like it takes much effort on our part, we're talking about literally 10 seconds to vote on these.)

I vote on these for more the sentimental value to those that are effected by these. It's nice for LGBT kids to see lopsided polls in their favor for a change. :]

Well its a fine conclusion to jump to, i think a lot of people on r/atheism haven't actually had personal experiences pertaining to being treated badly by a "religious" community, though a fair amount i believe have.

And this is something i always have to do. Whenever i feel myself getting prejudice against Christianity because of that bottom percentage of them, i have to think of the many wonderful ones i know.

This is a national poll this time. So its not a poll from a local newspaper that will ruin it's accuracy. Since this is national it is perfectly fine for redditors to vote on it.

Cake Day! Isn't he delicious? by MercurySchultzin gaymers

[–]mrcloudies 0 points1 point ago

I'm going to say... Yes?

Certainly all good on the back end, and i think he might have an attractive face.. But i have to get a look at the front of him to be able to come to a conclusive decision of whether or not he is delicious.

More data is needed to complete this hypothesis!

I know some of the bad religious people personally.

My family has been burned by more than one church. One church i went to as a kid the pastor was arrested for embezzlement, another church shunned my entire family because my parents wouldn't kick out my older brother for having sex at 16, i have met many judgmental, cruel and hate filled Christians.

I certainly don't get my information from this sub-reddit.

I've personally heard people say that we should kill all the Muslims, and all homosexuals. That the world would be better without them. All from the mouths of Christians.

I've been called faggot, I've had people stop talking to me and my family for not believing in god, and for me being a homosexual. (after so many years of looking for churches we gave up. My mom is still somewhat religious, but everyone else is Atheist/Agnostic)

I know not all Christians are like this. I know some people that are some of the most open minded, caring, wonderful people that I've ever met, and they are Christian.

But from my experience, from the sheer number of people my family has come across in Michigan no less, is quite alarming. Not all Christians are bad, not even a majority of them are. By no means is that the case. But i think more of them are than most Christians would like to admit.

And atheists aren't better. There are scumbags that come in all sorts of shapes, sizes and ideological beliefs. Have to admit though, the atheists i have come across in my life, haven't done anything remotely as bad as some of the supposed "religious" people I've had the dishonor of knowing.

Again please don't take this as a complete attack on religious people. Just sharing that i when i write shit on Christian people, i'm speaking of that bottom 20%. That group of Christians that have negatively effected my life, and my family and friends lives.

Sorry to ramble. But i could probably write a book on the amount of experiences me and my family have had with "religious" people. (in quotations because they are in fact evil, and in no way make up the brunt of the religious community)

No, i think its rude to have in god we trust on our currency. We don't all believe in god, and the countries currency has no right to stamp that there. It was put on in the 1950s during the communism hysteria, and there is no reason for it to be there.

Whats the point of doing anything on reddit? what are you doing right now?

Get of your fucking high horse man, we're all here just to have fun, and maybe make some people feel a little better about themselves.

Some LGBT kids there in Utah are going to look at this poll and get a boost from it. Where the fuck is the harm in that? And was it really worth the effort to belittle it?

Grow up.

Okay, try, i know it might be difficult, but try to get this through your skull... Two consenting adults happens to be a different thing from a consenting adult and a dog, or a consenting adult and a child.

You are unbelievable insulting, and i very much think you are an extraordinarily repulsive excuse for a human being. Shame on you.

Sorry, but the anti government method of eliminating the very few things that actually are left to help people in this country and not replacing it with anything, simply leaves people out to dry.

Sorry, but good will from private people can only get you so far. There are simply too many people in need of assistance. There are after all over three hundred million Americans. How can we revert back to small government now? Who can afford to educate 80 million students? who can afford to help with the healthcare of 50 millions people? Who can take care of 30 million elderly?

The collective can. Everyone working together through taxes, and effective, streamlined government programs, and through the continued efforts of caring Americans that choose to volunteer is the way to progress. We don't have any effective social programs because we don't have an effective government. We need to work at some of the fundamental issues that are impeding our government. AKA business leaking into government, we need to revert back to a free market system without lobbying, bailouts or superPacs. And fix our broken electoral system where only the richest lawyers can get in. These are two of the main issues that are breaking America. You could cut ever welfare program there is and not balance the budget completely. We need to come to the realization that medicare is more expensive and less effective than nationalized healthcare. (we're ALL going to use healthcare.. Why is it so bad that we all pay equally for it?)

It seems that libertarians and those in favor of decreasing the government, fail to realize that just cutting out the government, will solve nothing. As of now it would just create more control for big businesses. And business leaking into government is what got us in this mess in the first place. We have to keep corporate America and the government strictly separate if we want an effective government. Once we have an effective government, we can have effective, significantly cheaper social programs.

Okay this bothers me. A lot of people that post here put up with a lot of shit in their personal lives from theistic people, and this is one of the few places that they can vent. Not many people are really intolerant here, you seem to be upset by coming to an atheist subreddit and finding.. Well atheist content.

A lot of the self righteousness i see is coming from these comments here.

A lot of high and mighty bull shit going on in this "anti-r/atheism" list of responses. Get over yourselves and stop taking r/atheism so seriously. And if you don't like it, well gee, maybe you should unsubscribe from it.

After Obama endorsed marriage equality, there was a 36-point surge in black support for gay marriage in Maryland by Osterstrikerin politics

[–]mrcloudies 1 point2 points ago

No worries, With all the information blasting around 24/7 in this day and age, its hard to believe people can even know half of what's going on. :p

So unless you have a serious interest in an issue, odds are you might not see it. Besides, the visitation rights was passed with VERY little press on it for some reason..

After Obama endorsed marriage equality, there was a 36-point surge in black support for gay marriage in Maryland by Osterstrikerin politics

[–]mrcloudies 1 point2 points ago

Well he's done more than just say it.

With the repeal of Don't ask Don't tell, and his attending of HRC conferences, and he also extended hospital visitation rights to same sex couple in all hospitals that get federal funding.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/04/15/AR2010041505502.html

So it's safe to say he's acted on his statements when it comes to gay rights. Reasonable minds can disagree on some other stances, but he's done leaps and bounds more for LGBT rights than any other president in history.
