TROPHY CASE

Over 400 students arrested in Canada during the latest night of mass rallies against tuition fee hikes. Tensions have spiraled after the adoption of a bill that limits students’ rights to freedom of speech, association and assembly by karnovichvaluain worldnews

[–]mph1204 0 points1 point ago

You mean how there's a huge bubble in higher education spending? Yea i get it. But i went and got and "elite education" and everyone who i knew including myself who got science, tech, engineering, and finance degrees are doing fine. I can't say the same about my friends who got arts, history, acne music deterred no matter how bright they were. We also were able to make great contacts. I agree that most people don't need four year degrees but if you want to you should take advantage of it

did you do a liberal arts major? cuz an "elite" education from a top notch university can get you FAR if you take advantage of it correctly.

Surprised I didn't see this yet. Scumbag ESPN at it again. by MrNoodles313in sports

yea, skip's pretty ridiculous. i actually enjoyed the show when they rotated panel members and it wasn't all about tebow or lebron. now, it's just degenerated into pure crap. also, i'm not a huge fan of stephen a. smith but i used to at least look forward to wednesdays when he would come on and yell at skip. now, he's on daily and the novelty has turned into a nuisance.

(we have ESPN or ESPN2 on in our conference room every day unless we have meetings)

well, to be fair, he's not on sportscenter. he was on cold pizza which turned into first take on espn2. a few months ago, the tebow stuff started and i think that's what triggered the show to be all about the debates and skip. before, it was mostly just little fluff pieces. it's more interesting to watch if you like debate, but it's annoying if you're more interested in highlights/facts.

we expect heroes and role models from our favorite companies' CEOs but they're really no different from all the other profit hungry execs out there. I wouldn't doubt there's some merit to the studies showing a greater prevalence of sociopathy in the higher echelons of corporate America.

Christopher Nolan and Heath Ledger. by exitstrateGin movies

[–]mph1204 2 points3 points ago

I never thought of the Joker as very scary. I never read any comic books and the only depictions that I saw were on kidsWB after school . That depiction made him look like a big goofball.

When I saw the Dark Knight, my view of the Joker completely shifted. Gone was the silly prankster and in its place was Heath Ledger's portrayal. He really blew me away and introduced me to the chaotic horror that is the Joker's mind.

Have you ever completely 'turned your life around'? by hambeeslyin AskReddit

[–]mph1204 0 points1 point ago

you're very welcome. I think most of the stories here have the same theme. life's rough sometimes and you can get lost. the most important thing is to keep your eyes open. see what interests you or motivates you and pursue it. i think what stops most people is fear of change. if you can get past that, then the world is your oyster. in the beginning tho, I do think it's useful to just shut off the part of your brain that says let's just do it tomorrow and get started.

If you could marry someone of a specific profession which would you choose? by BKWOPin AskReddit

[–]mph1204 7 points8 points ago

I think it'd be cool to marry a food critic for a major magazine. I'd love to be able to tag along to check out some chic new restaurants.

On a side note: I don't think this is going to come to a shock to anyone, but don't date doctors. I've basically exclusively dated people in med school and going through their residencies and it's awful if you're not on it as well.

I wouldn't say "completely" but it was definitely a big change. After college, I was working a very casual research job in Philly where I grew up. It was a 10-4 job and I DJ'd in the evenings. A lot of booze, smoking, partying til 3-4AMish before crashing and starting over the next day. One day, I realized that I hadn't saved any money for about 2 years and my life wasn't going anywhere while friends around me were starting their careers and grad school. One Saturday, I just decided to spend the day looking online for jobs and to get my resume in line for applications. I began talking to my friends about trying to find something and sure enough, one of my friends introduced me to people at the company that I currently work at. I moved to DC within about a month of this all starting. I had few friends in the city, I missed Philly like crazy, and I tried doing a long distance relationship with my gf at the time but that didn't work out. But little by little, I became more comfortable with the city and made plenty of friends through meetups, my roommates, etc. I had a lot of doubts along the way but I now have a pretty awesome life and I enjoy what I do. I finally have a grasp of what I want to do for a career and will soon be starting to apply to grad school.

Sometimes, you just have to be willing to make a move and get started. It doesn't even have to be a conscious decision; just get up one weekend and do it. Once you decide on a path, just keep saying Yes to every opportunity that arises and you'll eventually make it.

Kinect Finally living up to its promise? by TaurenNicholsin Games

[–]mph1204 1 point2 points ago

I know there was disappointment about the Kinect, but I used it as a workout tool with Zumba Fitness and Biggest Loser and it wasn't too bad. I enjoy using workout videos like P90X and using the xbox was a great way to work out at home.

My response to people who say legalizing medical marijuana is a waste of time. by Cadaverlanchein trees

[–]mph1204 0 points1 point ago

there's a point there though. most people in the nation are becoming comfortable with medical marijuana but not recreational marijuana. if we legalize medical marijuana, there are still people out there who will want to ban it because of its supposed addictive and harmful properties. if recreational marijuana is legalized, there won't be this need for faking of illnesses. it's the same with something like oxycodone or adderall. they're prescription drugs that are limited due to their abusive potential.

people get on rush limbaugh for abusing prescription painkillers. why would medical marijuana be looked at any differently?

My response to people who say legalizing medical marijuana is a waste of time. by Cadaverlanchein trees

[–]mph1204 10 points11 points ago

i agree with you. the push for legalization of medical cannabis isn't the exact right method. medical cannabis by itself will most likely be a Schedule II drug, which means it has as many restrictions to access as meds like hydrocone or adderall with the penalties that come with it. if we want real change for the average nonmedical smoker, then our efforts should be to show that there is minimal harm to the smoker's body, that it can be used responsibly, and that there is little risk for it to lead to harder drugs.

Diablo 3 accounts hacked, gold and items stolen by xmidoin Games

[–]mph1204 8 points9 points ago

I agree that it's not very reassuring, but that's what the blizzard rep said.

Also, my biggest issue with this is that I am fully aware and willing to take certain risks with online games. My contention is that it's not apparent to me why they needed to force single players to go through the log in process with the servers. I mean, I understand their reasoning (piracy, auction house security, etc), but I don't think they had the consumer in mind, which is disappointing from Blizzard.

What are some Philadelphia establishments you would not recommend? by Ididnotknowthatin philadelphia

[–]mph1204 0 points1 point ago

Penn grad here. I had already left the city when Tap House opened, but I was really stoked that there was a nice bar on Penn's campus. That was short lived. The plates and utensils are disgustingly dirty. The glasses are little better. The food sucks. The only good thing about it is that it's easy to walk to if you're on Penn's campus. Otherwise, stay away.

Diablo 3 accounts hacked, gold and items stolen by xmidoin Games

[–]mph1204 9 points10 points ago

it seems as if you're safe if you stay out of public games and are very careful about who you invite into your games. it's still a bit unnerving since presumably, Blizzard has all of our private information backed up to their servers. I never felt scared of that being stolen until they introduced their RMAH. It feels like a big ass beacon to the world inviting hackers to have a field day.

don't know why you're being downvoted. i want to know the same thing. i bought the game without any intention of playing multiplayer or using the auction house. i'm a very casual gamer and don't feel the need to use those features. that being said, the fact that my account has the potential to be hacked because blizzard wanted to make money off of an auction house really pisses me off.

Would you really say the Diablo series is meant to be multiplayer? Because unlike what i consider to be multiplayer, you can complete the game without a group. Edit...and i unfortunately am in the minority that prefers to play the story rather than multiplayer
