Another reason piracy won't die, companies like I-Tunes do things like this with the songs you 'purchase' by LastPachydermin Music

I love the Amazon Mp3 Store. You get pretty high quality mp3 files and sometimes albums are under $5. The downloading process is a little stupid, but I'm fine with it.

Which way should I point my fan? by TubePincherin answers

[–]mongolian 1 point2 points ago

A/C is the reason why the South and Southwest has been able to boom in the last half century. Other things were important too, but LA, Houston, Dallas, and Phoenix would not be anywhere near what they are without A/C

I can't believe this is serious. This should be on /r/WTF or at least /r/TIL.

This is the article Wikipedia cites. According to this, fans have asphyxiated 20 Koreans between 2003-2005. I guess I've just been a badass my entire life.

1981 Civic, got it yesterday for 200 bux! Runs and drives great, tread on the tires, ready for some SPRAY PAINT!! by gentle_squidin UserCars

[–]mongolian 1 point2 points ago

What's wrong with a Mustang? It's a great car and I got an awesome deal on it during the auto crisis. I keep mine very clean and original. I'm not a fan of the blacked out lights, fake scoops, and all that. It's a very good car and, according to Edmunds, it has actually appreciated.

I have no problem with you personalizing your car. I do have a problem when people half-ass it and make the car look bad. Spray paint does not belong on a car. If you want to personalize it, do it right.

Top Five Formations Nebraska Should Use in 2012: No. 4 by eightlacesin Huskers

Seriously? First the Ace, now the Shotgun? This guy is just listing basic formations and linking to game film. He isn't adding anything of real value.

We're really grasping at things to talk about now.

Pre-Millenium Japanese cars aren't my cup of tea (except for a couples models), but no car should be spray painted. It looks so shitty and makes the driver look like a dickhead.

Your Don't Mess With the Internet billboards are up in Lamar Smith's home district! by kn0thingin technology

[–]mongolian 1 point2 points ago

Seems like a few non-Texans are trying to argue that no one will understand this. I think they should leave Texans to make that judgment. This slogan and its derivatives are used ALL THE TIME down here.

[–]mongolian 0 points1 point ago

As a Texan, I do not find this subtle at all. Billboards can't carry much information because people can't really stop to read them all the time. Maybe if they put "Fight SOPA" or something under the star, it would be more explicit, but I don't think it's necessary. It's a striking enough billboard that some people will look it up on the internet.

I'm not a Titans fan, but I like Washington. I picked him up in fantasy football after Britt went down. He was pretty good. Better than a lot of Texans receivers.

Of course we will use this. It's one of the most basic formations there are.

All-Century/Decade Team by sil0in Texans

[–]mongolian 2 points3 points ago

This list was a joke. I believe Owen Daniels was our last resort for QB in that Titans game if TJ got hurt. Also, Rosenfels is known for his Helicopter Evasion Technique (apologies for the stupid Youtube video editing)

Also, Garcia never even dressed and Leinart got hurt immediately. The real list would probably be something like:

  1. Schaub

  2. TJ

  3. Delhomme

  4. Carr

  5. Rosenfels

That is, if we only take into account the way they played on the Texans.

What's Your College Football Program Worth? Introducing Realignment Value Rankings by cthor515in CFB

[–]mongolian 2 points3 points ago

Forbes is a horrible metric for schools IMO. The criteria are just so skewed to small liberal arts that it makes me want to throw up. When some of the Ivies are ranked in the 40s or 50s, you should know your list is off.

Some of us want pre-professional degrees, that doesn't make our school worthless!

Has Mack Brown lost his edge in Texas? by Zoorunin CFB

[–]mongolian 0 points1 point ago

Oh come on, Lincoln, Nebraska is nowhere near the city that Austin is. You would have to be insane to think so. Austin is the perfect college town IMO.

I think one of the main reasons I didn't go to UT is that I just can't stand UT football.

Has Mack Brown lost his edge in Texas? by Zoorunin CFB

[–]mongolian 0 points1 point ago

I would have to say that UT as an institution has the biggest recruiting advantage in the NCAA, if you throw out recent performance and coaching staff (I realize those are critical for recruitment, but they are correlated to Mack Brown).

UT is both the premier university and college football program (historically) in Texas. Austin, TX is the coolest college city I can think of off the top of my head. In addition to that, they pour tons of money into their athletics. UT has a lot going for it as an institution.

If a coach can't go into UT and be in the top 15 every year and the BCS every 2/3 years, his job is in jeopardy. Sure, he should get some leeway if a crucial coordinator leaves, but I think Mack Brown is walking on thin ice if he has another bad season.

Am I the only one who thinks super conferences are a bad thing? by vondrewin CFB

[–]mongolian 1 point2 points ago

Yeah, the only problem I see would be with rivalries. Unless you add protected games (which would complicate things), you would have to group rivals into the same division. The problem with this is that it could lead to lop-sided divisions (Michigan and OSU are usually pretty good) or geographical issues.

Hilarious: Kobe has a flashback, but gets stripped by Durant. by burimalin nba

[–]mongolian 0 points1 point ago

Yeah, I understand. I actually know some people like that (see my other reply to soonerguy11 for my Lakers story).

I was just wondering if soonerguy11 considered ALL Lakers fans to be fanboys. There are some good Lakers fans out there. Just because they are often successful and its easier to be a Lakers fan doesn't mean that all fans are fanboys.

Same can be said for the Yankees, Steelers, etc.

In the NBA, I always root for the smaller market teams.

[–]mongolian 1 point2 points ago

Ok, gotcha. Yeah, I know a Lakers fan like that actually. During the Rockets-Lakers playoff series a few years ago, he got up all in my face when Yao got his career-ending injury. I believe the quote was, "Looks like Yao is leaving. He must have some sand in his vagina." I wanted to punch him in the face. I really wish we won that series, but we were a rag-tag group.

So we get to hang out with OU again and UT isn't invited to play? I'm ok with this plan.

Am I the only one who thinks super conferences are a bad thing? by vondrewin CFB

[–]mongolian 3 points4 points ago

Agreed. I would just rather have smaller conferences with more inter-conference play.

So like:

Y1 & Y2:

A plays rest of A, all of B, half of C

B plays rest of B, all of A, half of D

C plays rest of C, all of D, half of A

D plays rest of D, all of C, half of B

Y3 & Y4:

A plays rest of A, all of D, other half of C

B plays rest of B, all of C, other half of D

C plays rest of C, all of B, other half of A

D plays rest of D, all of A, other half of B

Smart.

Yeah, I'm really curious as to how you guys will expand. The Rockies seem to be a big geographical/TV market barrier. The Mountain West guys don't have many viewers and you guys already own California. The B1G and Big XII are solid now and have all of the strong midwest markets locked up. I think you guys have to hope that UT pisses off everyone again (but even worse than before). Maybe then you can get OU?
