I recommend folks give the two-piano version of Holst's The Planets a try. I think "Mars" and "Venus" are particularly suited to a piano rendition.

My favorite scene from an otherwise dull episode: Angel kibitzes in prison lingo about how Jim is about to lose a game of chess to his father, Rocky:

"This game's over, man! You gotta move your Boss or Rocky's gonna lay a subpoena on him: then his Torpedo is gonna smoke your Old Lady, and all your Heavies'll be doin time-except for maybe your Mouthpiece, but Rocky's Sheriff got him put in the corner-you got nothin' left but Punks and Junkies: you're through, Jimmy." -- from the Rockford Files episode "Chicken Little Is a Little Chicken."

Also completely unnecessary for those of us who know that an iPhone's screen is glass, and therefore more difficult to scratch than any plastic screen protector one might apply.

Kindle books are apparently cheaper, and the method for removing the DRM is at least known to me, so I buy some e-books from Amazon. I've purchased non-DRM e-books, too, and these I usually read in iBooks.

No, you just need to have the iPad, an Apple TV (turn on Airplay in the settings), and some app on the iPad that plays video. The video can either be on the iPad, or stream from somewhere. For example, I have a picture up on imgur for you: http://i.imgur.com/XJOmy.jpg In the picture, I have the PBS app running and I'm streaming an episode of Sherlock. I've just clicked on the Airplay icon in the app to open the dialog box that allows me to choose a device to stream the app's output. As you can see, the video icon to the left of the iPad and the Apple TV in the list indicates that both devices are capable of playing video, while the speaker icon next to "Express," a wireless router, indicates that Express will only play the audio portion of the content. Note that this doesn't work with the Netflix app on the iPad because Netflix is, of course, already available on Apple TV.

Note, the video streaming to the Apple TV does not mirror. The video window on the iPad goes dark and displays a video icon with the following text: "This video is playing on 'Apple TV.'" While streaming to the Apple TV, the iPad is now, in effect, a remote control for the content playing on the screen. The Apple TV's own remote can also control content that is streaming to the Apple TV.

I had to audition alarm clocks in the store to find the loudest alarm I could (a Sony Dream Machine), then I had to place the alarm clock on the other side of the bedroom so I must get out of bed and shut it off. Previously, if I placed an alarm clock conveniently close to my bed, it was entirely possible for me to turn the alarm off in the morning, oversleep, and have absolutely no memory of turning the alarm off. So I can sympathize.

I remember this book series fondly. Each book is about the planning and construction of a fictional structure based on what we know about how such structures were built. David Macaulay wrote several of these: Pyramid, Cathedral, City (how an ancient Roman city would be built), Castle, Underground (about the complexity of services to be found under a modern city), and Unbuilding (an oil sheikh has the Empire State building carefully dismantled to be shipped to his home country and re-erected). Great fun and very educational.

Macaulay also wrote Motel of the Mysteries, a humorous send-up of the necessary assumptions made in archaeology. An archaeologist some 2000 years hence excavates and attempts to explain the strange and wondrous artifacts he finds in the ruins of the Toot n' Come On (get it?) motel.

I bought mine about a month ago, and I'm enjoying the hell out of it.

I've purchased very little video content (movies and TV shows) from iTunes because I think it is overpriced (I consider this the fault of the studios, not Apple). I am using my Netflix account much more than I used to, however, and the price is right.

I am subscribing to iTunes Match, so all of my music is available on my Apple TV without needing to have a computer awake somewhere in the house.

Airplay with my new iPad (3) is great. It would be nice to have more movie and TV show apps on the Apple TV in addition to Netflix, but Airplay combined with Airplay-compatible apps on the iPad is practically as good. For example, I am watching the new season of Sherlock on my Apple TV via the PBS app on my iPad streaming to my Apple TV. I guess I will have to give VUDU and Hulu a try to see if these apps will also Airplay.

Can anyone suggest other Airplay-compatible apps and services that I can use to stream content to my Apple TV?
