I think that my point was that with hybrids (and the fact that, in reality, very very few people last through a long mortgage without modification or paying off) ARM's aren't that much of a gamble as people think, especially if the majority of people modify or pay off their mortgage after 7 years.

She's in Afganistan... the photographer and NatGeo went to find her 2002 and she had no idea that she became an icon. She was just a regular person living in one of the poorest countries in the world. If I remember correctly, the magazine and photographer mentioned that she will be "taken care of" for life now.

Our agent asked for this too. We are getting a gift from both sides of our family. We had to send over a PDF of a bank statement showing sufficient funds in the account. Parents were a little weirded out, but they blacked out quite a bit of information and the bank actually notarized the document.

My wife would have a lot more - we flew to Italy (from US west coast) which was a similar very long flight. It's really not that bad - between 6wks and 6 months is the golden time when travelling isn't too crazy.

Two things that were absolutely key that we didn't realize until we had gone through it. First, definitely take an ergo or a sling in addition to your stroller. We found the stroller really helpful to push around luggage while we had the kid in an ergo. Very very helpful.

Also, my wife nursed our little one on the takeoffs and landings. I think this helped quite a bit with any ear issues that might have arisen.

And really, most people are very very nice. Again, as another poster mentioned, it's those people that have loud kids which are ignored by parents who get the dirty looks!

But, God help us, we're flying to Europe again this summer, which an 18 month old...

No input from real estate agent. Part of the calculation for us is a substantial amount of gift money available to us (without any catch) - it throws the entire calculation askew. But if you're curious, we're 94301.

Yup, already went through all the calculations whether it's better to buy or rent. Where we are the market is starting to see a big uptick too.

Oen of my favorite "This American Life" episodes talks about this mildly autistic guy who has to learn how to interact with his wife. One of his rules is the "when my wife tells me problems, sympathize with her." This often led to hilarious results:

Wife: "This place REALLY needs to be cleaned!"

Husband: "Yeah, that really sucks."

Was your 4.2% for jumbo? I see 30 year fixed under 4% regularly now, but not for jumbo loans.

Bankrate has something like a big spike in 30 year fixed jumbos at the beginning of this month, and then a huge drop right now. I'm hoping that the lender's going to drop the rate by the time we officially get everything done.

Just like the US though, where you are makes a HUGE difference. Even in the major cities you can live like a king for quite cheap. And if you're not in a major city, $35k a year is a hell of a lot of money...

Wait, you've "personally" contacted wineries? All requests really need to be in writing. In the future you just need a form letter, donation return form, and a mailing list. It's much easier and you just wait for faxes/emails/letters to come in.

Make sure you're talking to the right person. There's a specific person in charge of charitable donations. You should talk to them directly. If you have a "purpose," like you're putting together a large lot for a drawing, or you're looking for a pouring station, it's easier to get donations.
