How'd the nude female get so soiled?

Mini Helmet Speakers - anybody try these in the wild? by mgsalingerin bicycling

[–]mgsalinger[S] 3 points4 points ago

ZZZZT wrong, the non-dick answer is: "I've never tried them - have no idea if they work or not - but I would be concerned about safety. Perhaps someone who has tried them could give you credible info"

About four rides into the mountain biking season... this seems about right by outdoordude100in bicycling

Got my first real mountain bike this season - I've been a roadie up til now - banged both my shins and fell off a cliff - likes it so much I am going back tomorrow!

What's your most expensive cycling related purchase(s), and was it worth it? by muppetteerin bicycling

[–]mgsalinger 0 points1 point ago

875.00 on a frame. Bought on e-bay from 3,000 miles away. A very scary purchase, dropping that kind of cash. Luckily for me, it was a great purchase - the cyclist I bought it from was an honest broker.

My Fiancé and I before our first ride as an engaged couple! by conmimentein bicycling

It's because folks think they are erring on the side which would make them sound more intelligent - all the more reason it grates on me - and don't get me started on the misuse of "begging the question."

Alright I need your help, my rear shifter is broken and I'm looking for an inexpensive(ish) way to fix it. by runin2astndstillin bikewrench

[–]mgsalinger 1 point2 points ago

In Manhattan that's not a bad price - which gruppo are they talking and what is included - new brifters? My guess is they are going to put you into a tiagra - if you keep your old brifters a crank and derailleurs and cassette would cost you around 180 to 200 bucks. Is it worth a hundred and a half or so to have someone else install the whole shebang and guarantee their work is the question then.

If you haven't done this kind of work before I would say yes.

My fiancee and ME. Just 'cause you ride a bike doesn't mean your speech can't be grammatically correct. One wouldn't say, "I, before my first ride as an engaged couple."

Let the down votes begin.

Okay - I bought it there - we'll see what happens. Thanks boss.

I know - it's frustrating - especially since I watched it with subtitles on the plane. You would think that there would be somewhere one could spend money and get the thing. I'm headed to Hong Kong in a couple months - if I cant find it there it will not be found.

Cycling Fatalities in Canada: Helmet Effect Undetectable in Fatality Trends by nanuq905in bicycling

[–]mgsalinger 0 points1 point ago

I've bounced my head off the pavement twice in the past three years cracking my helmet instead of my skull. Both instances were through no real fault of my own - got clipped by a back tire of someone switched across 20 yards of space without looking ala Cavendish and then on some ill repaired railroad tracks (ended up with four broken ribs on that one.) But no concussions either time.

tldr: two falls without scalping myself on the pavement thanks to helmet.

Exactly - that's been my problem. I saw the flic on a plane loved it - it was hilarious and I'm trying to turn friends on to it - I was back in Thailand and couldn't find it in the short time I was there this time. I haven't had any luck with the torrent site I use (demonoid) - I am not opposed to buying the damn ting if I could find a place to do so.

How can I get my bike from Oklahoma to New York? by cpsteele64in bicycling

[–]mgsalinger 0 points1 point ago

You can even have your lbs pack it for flying - be warned though the airlines have upped the price to take a bike. United charges a hundred bucks each way - it used to be treated just like luggage - but not anymore.

basically it's the effect of sound shifting as it passes - in this piece it is written in a way that hopefully it starts soft - gets louder in the middle - then soft again as if it were a train passing.

Here's one I wrote on insomnia which is written so that when read out loud it produces a Doppler effect. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Insomnia

Generally you’ll sleep through it

but on occasions of anticipation, heartache

or too much caffeine

you may find yourself lying awake

at 3:25 am and the world is silent

perfectly still longing for sleep

you may hear your heart beat

like the pendulum of a grandfather clock

in the next room

ear pressed against pillow

turned back in

listening

to your own blood flow

its echo the sound of the ocean

in a seashell

then in the distance

timpani drums, hundreds of them

muffled mallets bouncing off skins

like a heavy rain on canvas

marching closer and closer

their rhythms resonating in the pit of your stomach

giving way to the metallic clack and clatter

of steel wheel on rail

and then for an instant

the sky is full of train sound

and you’re awake

on this occasion of anticipation, heartache

or too much caffeine

then the wheels surrender

to the rain

and the rain bows to the tympanis

And the tympanis march away

leaving you with the sound

of the ocean in a seashell

but generally

you’ll sleep through it.
