Same here. Dogpile was my hands down favorite 'til Google came along. Now, I almost wish I hadn't switched. There is something in a name though, isn't there?

Could you imagine everyone talking about 'dog-piling' this or that?

Correct. 1. You should know this. 2. You should have it. 3. Don't put yourself in a position to need it.

I say: It's a good start. BUT; he damned well had better be doing the same thing to people in other offensive get-up too! Daisy dukes, super short skirts, tie-less lawyers etc.

'Cause if I find out that the only thing that warrants the court's wrath is what one easily identifiable group of people do... I'm not gonna be a happy camper. This then IMMEDIATELY becomes something else.

iTunes: Time to right the syncing ship by gotnatein apple

[–]mensrea 2 points3 points ago*

I spent years curating my collection. I hate to say that over the years my love for music has dimmed a bit. I used to listen to music continually day and night. I don't any more. I guess part of that is being a busy professional. Some is getting older.

But I'm proud of my collection and anal about it. I have no tracks without art and 90% are maticulously tagged (all have at least some info). When the mood strikes I can call up just about whatever I want in seconds. That was my dream when I was in high school. Of course, I thought it would be some kind of mechanical cd wall. This is better. ;)

Well, all of the apps (but, I have a couple dozen more that would be from cydia). 30% of the Movies (the rest ripped from my DVDs (handbrake). 90% of the TV shows. 95% of the books.

iTunes is around 10% of the music. Another 10%-15% of the music from emusic. 1% Walmart. 5-6% Amazon, a handful from Rhapsody and the rest (vast majority) ripped from my CDs. I started building my digital music collection back in 1999. The early days of WinAmp. I had by then @ 300 CDs.

I never used lime wire of bearshare and never got a decent mp3 from napster. Nowadays I find it easier to just get stuff from emusic or iTunes. I'm severely anti-optical media. If I never touch a disk again that'll be fine with me. Too much space when you have a large collection/appetite and to0 fragile.

My music collection is 28,515 songs (142.84 gb) strong and growing.

I have 1117 movies = 1.8 terabytes

903 TV Shows; 357.72 gb

277 books; 14.36 gb

1139 apps; @ 80gbs

  • Assorted podcasts and iTunes U crap.

All told its about 3 terabytes worth of stuff! My media collection is in a word HUMONGOUS. I'm serving all of this media to my iOS devices and Apple TVs from a mid 2010 Mac mini (not exactly a powerhouse).

So let me tell you, I have no problems with iTunes. I don't want anything decoupled. Refined? Yes. Streamlined? OK. But, I am unaware of anyone who actually uses iTunes more than I do. I have 5 Apple TVs, 5!!!!! Five iOS devices that wirelessly sync to iTunes and two airport extremes that are attached to stereos in and outside of my house (to stream from iTunes). My Mac mini is on 24/7, so is iTunes. It works nearly flawlessly, everyday.

I can't name another peice of software that can compare to that.

[For the record, I do realize that running iTunes on a PC sucks donkey balls! Since media is what drives my computer usage, it's the main reason I picked up my first Mac in '07.]
