Having devoted several hundred hours of my life to the mass effect universe and games, this picture brought a tear to my eye. I would take this over the alternative any day of the week.

Not sure I like that in the nosing notes. But I am damn sure I like that NOT in the tasting notes. Other than that: sounds interesting, thanks for sharing!

Don't forget that it is possible to order between the systembolaget shops completely free of charge! Just call your local one and you can place an order. That's how I got a hold of mine.

Glengoyne Swedish Oak 2nd Edition - bottled in 2011, bottle number 500. 46%, non-chill filtered, natural color

This whisky is stored in swedish oak barrels manufactured by Thorlundskagge of Skaraborg, Sweden. It's matured for at least 16 years. As with most (all?) of their scotches, Glengoyne have air-dried the barley. It is a highly limited bottling, the first edition consisted of 660 bottles and I reckon the second edition is at a similar amount. I paid about 660 SEK, which roughly translates to 100$, for this bottle.

Color: Deep bronze

Nose: Rich sweetness with loads of vanilla. A definite presence of pears or sweet apples and perhaps some tones of dark chocolate, if you let it sit. Slightly sour, in a good way.

Taste: Intense sweetness as it hits the tip of your tongue. The sweetness quickly makes way for a tender malty taste with a fair amount of oak. Fresh fruits, dominated by pear, or possibly apples, appear for a brief moment as the taste develops. As expected, there's no hint of peat in any way. As the taste reaches the back of your tongue the oaky taste slowly grows stronger and stronger, peaking in an intense sensation of pure, clean, oak.

Finish: The finish is fairly intense and lingers quite some time. The oak taste is last to leave. Ahead of the oak something similar to herbs or fresh spices dances along your tastebuds. For a second or two the finish has a very fresh, green, foresty feel to it. Every now and then a slight hint of pine pops up. A slightly minty taste will make itself known almost a minute after the other tastes have dissipated.

Glengoyne Swedish Oak is a highly qualitative malt. The experience is raw and pure. While perhaps not being intense, apart from the oak notes, or very complex it does what it sets out to do extremely well: To create something reminding you of a lush green swedish forest. This dram is sweet and spicy, but not in the bourbony way, rather in a more discrete and dry way. Don't let the nose fool you, this is a foresty malt rather than a fruity one. I thouroughly enjoy this dram and revel in its uniqueness, would most certainly buy another bottle if there was to be a third edition.

I will investigate, thanks for the tip! Oddly appropriate username, by the way.

Edit: Unfortunately, no noticable difference even when cleaning the glass very thouroughly :/

Hopefully I was just unlucky with the bottle, or me and my pal are overly sensitive to the sulphury notes :)

I'd like to point out that this is the first bottle of approximately 25 owned in which I've felt the notes this strongly, if at all.

The sherry influence is definitely notable, and pleasant. I would not describe it as dominant, though. If you want a similar scotch with a dominant malty sherry tone, I'd suggest something along the lines of GlenDronach Revival 15 (which luckily is non-chill filtered and has no E150 added).

I have not sampled another bottle to determine if the sulphur that I, and a scotch drinking buddy of mine, find in it is a bottle issue or a bottling issue. We both agree that the sulphur does not bring the whisky down in level of quality too much to make it unbearable, either way.

I might have been slightly unclear. I really did enjoy the creaminess. And the first dram out of the bottle was like drinking whisky-flavored cream (in a very good way) but over the course of a few weeks the creaminess has receded to being nearly non-existant. Also, the slight sulphury touch has started to show itself slightly in the taste as well.

Yes, the sulphur did most certainly affect the score in a negative way. I would say that if this dram did not have the sulphury touch on the nose, and signs of it on the taste, it would be a solid 90 in my book. The first dram I took from the bottle was probably even higher than that, but I wasn't pondering a review at the time.

Glenfarclas 15, bottled in 2011. 46%

No caramel or chill-filtering statement on the bottle, so I assume both have been used.

Color: Rich golden.

Nose: Fruity, rich butterscotch, sherry, hints of raisins, a pinch of vanilla and, unfortunately, a touch of sulphur.

Taste: The creamy complexity hits you right away. Delivers toffee with a malty sherry taste. Very rich and oily, the texture alone in this dram is pleasing. Some impurity is hinted at as the taste creeps along the tonuge.

Finish: The finish lingers quite some time and contains hints of spice and just a touch of smoke.

This dram is pleasant and fulfilling. However, the slight hint of sulphur on the nose brings it down a few marks. Another issue, apart from the sulphury nose, I am finding with it as the level of the bottle is dropping is that the intense creaminess that was there at the start is dissipating, which I find unfortunate. Still though, this is a good dram and well worth the money.

I am really, really lazy. But yeah, after this I should probably get my own shorts at least I guess. Or I might as well just get something spandex-like. No point in hiding anything anymore, right?

Well the sizes are standard european. But the gym has a large number of shorts which they wash on a daily basis. This means that the shorts can sometimes be incredibly small, due to being washed so many times. Also, I'm about 198 cms tall. Furthermore, (I didn't mention it in the comic) I like to take off my underwear and go commando while in the gym. The shorts have this net-like thing to hold your sack and weiner but they don't always do the job.
