TIL that putting dry tea bags in smelly shoes or gym bags will absorb the unpleasant odor by MrsPibbin todayilearned

[–]mathazar 9 points10 points ago

Dryer sheets are also great for masking the scent of marijuana. Stuff a bunch in an empty toilet paper tube, then put a few sheets over the end and hold them in place with a hair tie or rubber band. Take a big nasty hit from the bong and blow it through the tube. Tada, flower fresh scent.

This device is called a sploof.

Power Play or Final Mission. Neither were very habitable, perhaps they were barely class M.

Enterprise "Storm Front Parts 1 & 2" worst episodes of Star Trek ever? by neoteotihuacanin startrek

A Night In Sick Bay, Threshold, Spock's Brain, These Are the Voyages, and Shades of Gray will all make Storm Front look amazing.

Star Trek: Cardinal Being Pitched To CBS Tomorrow! by Bovice1in startrek

Agreed, it looks awful. Captain Michael Winters? Could we please have a more generic white guy name?

How about something original like, I don't know, Captain Jean-Luc Picard.

The Great Trekkit Poll 2012! (or, how many people *really* hate Enterprise?) by mathazarin startrek

Actually it made me realize the same. I find the Cardassians to be one of the more compelling races in Trek. Klingons, Vulcans and Ferengi are a little more one-dimensional.

Hey, you got 900+ upvotes today... that's like a record in r/startrek. When you draw a crowd, there are bound to be assholes in it. Obviously people appreciated your post (hence the upvotes.) Since you posted 3 pics some people wonder if you're karma whoring. I believe you happened upon /startrek and started uploading some pics. So I say welcome to /startrek, welcome to Reddit, and Qapla'!

Nah, Chang was a good villain.

It takes a big man to admit when he's wrong. by SRotDin subredditoftheday

[–]mathazar 2 points3 points ago

I think you should mix it up and feature some small subs, some medium subs, but nothing that's default to the frontpage. But overall great job, I have no problems with SRotD. Reddit is full of assholes just like the rest of the world.

I felt like Chang (ST6) was just an attempt to rehash Khan.

Surprisingly good episode of Enterprise: 3x10 Similitude by picard_for_presidentin startrek

Don't tell anyone. The horrible intro music will throw them off.

Apparently in the 80s you could pay $40 to Universal Studios and star in your own episode of Star Trek. by DesCo83in startrek

So bad it's good, then bad again, then good in a way only bad stuff can be good.

My new shirt :) by ndtcsshin startrek

[–]mathazar 3 points4 points ago

It is a funny shirt, but it seems to be brains vs. brawn on this one. Both were great captains in different ways. To me Picard will always be superior, but Kirk can be more entertaining.

[–]mathazar 0 points1 point ago

Even in First Contact the only way I could explain his behavior was Borg related psychosis. Which I guess was possible after being assimilated, but it didn't make the character more engaging to me, just more idiotic.

My new shirt :) by ndtcsshin startrek

[–]mathazar 1 point2 points ago

True. The Kirk character developed nicely in the movies. Became a little more complex, a little wiser, yet still James T. Kirk at heart.

[–]mathazar 0 points1 point ago

Agreed. I can't stand Picard in the movies. He becomes a testosterone raging idiot. Kirk never acted that way in the movies.

I've been watching Enterprise, and I love it, but what the frik happened behind the scenes between seasons 2 and 3? by atimholtin startrek

[–]mathazar 1 point2 points ago

Some say seasons 3-4 are the best, but I think there's something to appreciate about every season. Seasons 1-2 are about space exploration, astronauts venturing into the unknown frontier. The changes in Season 3 might feel a bit rough at first, but the entire season is a very compelling story arc, a bit darker and more complex. Season 4 is multiple story arcs and has some of the best episodes, and a few that aren't so great (like the last one.) Be warned, the last episode is complete crap. I consider it a writing mistake and not part of the series.

Why do you think there are no gay people in Star Trek? by VulcanDeathGripin startrek

[–]mathazar 3 points4 points ago

Andrew Robinson, the actor who portrayed Garek, had left open the possibility that the character could be gay or bisexual. In an interview, he said:

I started out playing Garak as someone who doesn't have a defined sexuality. He's not gay, he's not straight, it's a non-issue for him. Basically his sexuality is inclusive. But – it's Star Trek and there were a couple of things working against that. One is that Americans really are very nervous about sexual ambiguity. Also, this is a family show, they have to keep it on the 'straight and narrow', so then I backed off from it. Originally, in that very first episode, I loved the man's absolute fearlessness about presenting himself to an attractive human being. The fact that the attractive human being is a man (Bashir) doesn't make any difference to him, but that was a little too sophisticated I think. For the most part, the writers supported the character beautifully, but in that area they just made a choice they didn't want to go there, and if they don't want to go there I can't, because the writing doesn't support it.

Ah ok. I thought that might be it. I mostly agree with your answers. My favorite TOS movie is #6, but Khan is a vey close 2nd. Favorite series used to be TNG, but I watched it to death so now it's DS9.

Agreed. 2 3 and 4 are the "trilogy." 6 is just awesome. 5 is only good for the humor and 1 can be enjoyable but it takes a special appreciation. I like 1, it has a creepy vibe. Similar to 2001: A Space Odyssey.
