I am not sure if this has been posted here before, but what the fuck is this? by InternationalFuckin childfree

It was absolutely hilarious to watch a little Namibian baby use a rock as a binkie and immediately after watch a little white baby from San Fransisco get lint rolled. Just because my uterus is a cold, barren place doesn't mean I don't think babies can be super funny.

10/10 would get stoned and watch again.

I loved Babies. Granted I was really stoned when I saw it, but I thought it was great, not at all 'natalist propaganda.'

CCTV on the hunt for illegal laowai: "Get rid of foreign scum, target Sanlitun and Wudaokou" by tomcarterin China

I have friends who have been jumped by big groups of drunk Chinese dudes outside of clubs. There usually isn't a reason.

EDIT: alcohol is probably the reason

Anyone have a run in with police yet over the foreigner crackdown? by tipotterin China

[–]makemearedcape 0 points1 point ago

Yikes, that's super unlucky. Well if I happen to find myself with a handful of "official" warnings, I'll begin to consider taking my passport out of its secret place in my apartment.

Just make photocopies and keep them in your wallet. Carrying around your passport is an unnecessary risk.

Getting groped by Chinese men - is this happening to any of you? by 2orangey4crowsin China

[–]makemearedcape -1 points0 points ago

A gross little Chinese dude grabbed my boob on line one in Beijing and I ran off the train after him and beat him over the head with one arm (the other was full). He went in for another grab so I pushed him and he tried to run off but I ran after him and pulled him by his collar and beat him over the head some more. The crowd around us was REALLY confused at that point.

Chinese Students Get IV Drips While Studying for Gaokao Exam by iampondscumin China

[–]makemearedcape 1 point2 points ago

A friend of mine had a colleague who had a pretty bad flu. Instead of getting proper rest, she woke up at 5 every morning for a week and went to get an IV drip before work. I also knew a girl who went to the hospital once for a splinter.

The straight truth about massage parlors in China (need it) by IknowImfilthyin China

In my old neighborhood, the handjobby joints had a barber's pole out front that had baby pink and baby blue stripes. Generally though...you can just tell.

Most public washrooms don't have toilet paper... by irreverentguyin China

A lot of the sewage systems are strictly for liquid. There are a lot of bars, especially in the hutongs, that will charge you an unclogging fee if you poop in their bathrooms.

I left a dozen hard boiled eggs out of the refrigerator for 12 hours in 65°F-ish temperatures. Are they safe to eat? by guacamole23in Cooking

I ate a hard boiled egg today that had been out for 10 hours. It was delicious.

Hey r/China, I have some questions regarding English teaching and jobs in China by NielDLRin China

[–]makemearedcape 0 points1 point ago

It's rare but it's definitely possible. I live in Beijing and got sick of teaching so I scoured the classifieds until I found a hospitality position, and now I work in events at a five star hotel. Finding a job outside of teaching is a lot of networking and a lot of luck---but possible.

How much should I charge as a copy editor per 1000 words for a Chinese company? by lpfaderin China

[–]makemearedcape 0 points1 point ago

Price per 1000 words edited is usually not that much...just a couple of hundred in my experience. I'd say start at 250 and don't go below 200. If the project they give you is overly technical charge more or turn it down.

Is there anyone childfree who has considered fostering a kid or kids? by RougePommein childfree

I hope to eventually foster a kid or kids. I'm young though so it isn't feasible at the moment :) I feel exactly the same way you do.

Ladies posting pictures of themselves breastfeeding....why? by RCTIDsince85in childfree

[–]makemearedcape 1 point2 points ago

People violently unclog their nostrils without the use of a hankie EVERYWHERE. I even saw someone do it in a subway station. Usually its dudes but I totally saw a pretty girl walking down the street pause, snot rocket, and be on her way.

Insight on finding jobs in China. by mrmdcin China

[–]makemearedcape 1 point2 points ago

Network like a mofo. A lot of times getting a job here involves who you know. I don't teach anymore because I got lucky (job listing online), then through that job met someone who passed my CV to her boyfriend who was the RM at a major five star hotel. Now I have a job I really like! My friends who work outside of teaching do a lot a lot of networking. When in China, build up the guanxi.
