What are your favorite things to do with friends that are cheap, easy and instantly fun? by Noedelin AskReddit

[–]maggiecat4 7 points8 points ago

I prefer Beerio Kart personally. The rules are simple: finish your beer before the race ends, but you can't drink and drive. If you want a sip... Pull over.

Photographing them together exponentially increases their life-ruining powers.

Does anyone else feel like Molly and Arthur Weasley get shortchanged? by jazzoveggoin harrypotter

[–]maggiecat4 0 points1 point ago

I never thought Molly and Arthur got shortchanged, but I was sad that he didn't use Remus's name at all. I feel like Remus was just important to him, and he did die as well... Ah well. Lily Luna has a nice alliterative affect, and I appreciate them honoring Luna as well, but that name doesn't make as much sense to me either.

"Stayin Alive" by kaphilli2003in Sherlock

[–]maggiecat4 10 points11 points ago

I think "Staying Alive" is just a running joke. Even though it's a Moffat series, not everything has to have deep meaning. It's just funny that that particular song is his ringtone, and the way it interrupted the scene at the pool was humorous and unexpected.

As for Moriarty really being dead, I think he is. I've commented here before about how even a blank at that range would kill a person, and the gun made a sound and had recoil indicating it was really fired. Plus, canon had Moriarty really die, Moffat and Gatiss are pretty faithful to canon, and Moffat has basically come out and said that they're moving on to different villains for series 3.

Wicked Mystery Box From priestfan1ra! by maggiecat4in mysterybox

Awesome!! I think curling is a silly, though fascinating sport. I will confess to not understanding it, but I blame that on the fact that I live in Florida and our average annual temperature is in the low 90s :)

What is your favorite tea? by dizzy-visionin AskReddit

[–]maggiecat4 1 point2 points ago

Twinings has a nice Black tea variety box with English Breakfast, Irish Breakfast, Earl Grey, and Lady Grey teas. That's what I typically purchase :)

I like to imagine that there was something dead in the road and the line painter did not feel like cleaning it up.

DADA Assignment 4 - DEBATE by AnythingYouWantin harrypotter

[–]maggiecat4 2 points3 points ago

For guarding the most evil and demented of dark wizards, use of Dementors as prison guards almost seems justified. The strain placed on these evil wizards is hardly a concern, as many of them took many lives and ruined families during Voldemort's first reign of power.

There are two problems with using Dementors that I can see. First, Dementors can be viewed as a cruel punishment when innocents or individuals who committed minor crimes are involved. Just as the muggle justice systems of the world occasionally convict innocent people, wizarding law enforcement is no better. To those that are wrongly convicted, subjection to Dementors and potential madness is an inhumane, wrong, and irreversible punishment.

Second, it is questionable as to how much wizards and witches are capable of controlling Dementors. As evidenced by the Second Wizarding War, Dementors were able to rebel against their wizard "handlers," demonstrating that understanding of their biology and habits was shaky at best. It is certainly not wise to trust our most hardened criminals in the hands of dark creatures that we neither comprehend nor are able to control fully.

Is there a specific ACD story you'd like to see them do? Which one(s) and why? by tone_is_everythingin Sherlock

[–]maggiecat4 6 points7 points ago

"A Case of Identity" could have some serious amusement, but perhaps only as a side-story. It's fairly brief. I'll add that I would love to see Hugh Laurie as the Stepfather.

Beyond adorable :) by Cumberbatched19in Cumberbitches

[–]maggiecat4 0 points1 point ago

I absolutely love that there's doubt about whether or not he was messing with them. Of course he was. I forget where I've read it, but he always researches his roles. Didn't he re/read all of the Holmes stories before starting work on Sherlock? He's a very thoughtful actor, he must be having fun with them.

[–]maggiecat4 2 points3 points ago

I've been bitten by one (and oh, it hurt!) But I think they're really cool-looking insects. Not quite beautiful, but kind of like little armored clock cogs. Silly, yes, but I'm rather fond of them :)

[–]maggiecat4 4 points5 points ago

And to add, the reason the name might not make sense is because this one is a juvenile (nymph). When they're full grown they have a really cool wheel-like structure on their back. Painful bite aside, they've always been one of my favorites! :)

Update: I've turned my class into an online RPG. by PlaySalieriin education

[–]maggiecat4 0 points1 point ago

Ok... I may have played through the whole thing. What a GREAT way to learn and assess for middle schoolers! I think at the high school level (where most of my experience is) about half of the kids would love it and the other half would pretend to be too cool to enjoy it. But this is really great... Keep it up! :)
