This one is for any American who has no idea what all Europeans will do tomorrow. Two years old, but hopefully still relevant. by ctolsenin TrueReddit

Eurovision is a rather important event in the calendar year both entertainment wise and politically - I remember when in 1998 a transgender singer won the competition showing to all Europe that such people exist and can succeed if given a fair chance - it was huge uproar to say at least, especially in the East. But it HAD to air, even in the most backward Catholic countries. Everybody saw it. That is indeed something. This year the media go on reporting about the dictatorship in the host country, writing op-eds, showing documentaries about some obscure country of Azerbaijan - who knew it existed before Eurovision? Now 100 million people not only know it but surely have heard something about its problems. In my opinion it's a win win. Kitsch has never been so good to pinpoint the underlying issues.

Panorama: Eurovision's Dirty Secret (With just days to go to the final of this year's Eurovision Song Contest, Panorama has been undercover inside its hosts Azerbaijan, to discover the extraordinary truth about this secretive country and its approach to the world's most watched non-sporting event.) by Aschebescherin europe

Without the Eurovision there wouldn't be Panorama, there wouldn't be any public interest about the current situation of Azerbaijan. I say this opportunity is a blessing in disguise - grim poverty, nepotism and dictatorial aspirations are being talked about on higher levels now. How else would one bring ANYTHING to public attention when people generally do not give a damn.

If Apple ever sacrifices usability in favor of going with the flow, we will know there is a problem. Good thing is Apple got tens of different iPhone prototypes.

Reddit, I'm scared that once I start taking care of my mentally handicapped brother, my life is over. Can anyone who's cared for a handicapped family member lend me some optimism? by b3nny09in AskReddit

It seems to me that you are looking for confirmation on the facts that it's ok to "abandon" him.

Tim Cook meeting with Samsung CEO today in California by lavazzalovein apple

[–]magadget -6 points-5 points ago

I wonder if Tim will ask the Samsung CEO how his life in freedom is and what magic made him return after being convicted?

Quote: "July 16, 2008, The New York Times reported that the Seoul Central District Court found him guilty on charges of financial wrongdoing and tax evasion. Prosecutors requested that Lee be sentenced to seven years in prison and fined $347 million

On March 24, 2010, he announced his return to Samsung Group as its chairman."

Steve Jobs Dreamed of Developing an iCar by vlodiain apple

[–]magadget 3 points4 points ago

Steve had at least 20 healthy years ahead of him. 20 years to develop every single thing he could just imagine. But no, he had to trust some "alternative" cancer treatments that doomed him in the long run. It saddens me, really because I feel Tim Cook and co. will never be as stubborn, cocky and madly determined. I can really picture Steve tackling the car project after the TV thing.

Apple’s iPhone, five years old next month, seduces us with the perpetual call of elsewhere. But do we really want what it offers us? by croutonsoupin TrueReddit

I remember when the iPhone was the most hated gadget out there at the point of its release. Just like the iPad. Just like the iPod back in the day. Funny how history proves the criers wrong.
