[CROSSPOST form DYI], this is the sound system install that I did over the weekend by madcaesarin CarAV

[–]madcaesar[S] 2 points3 points ago

Worked on this over the weekend. 7am - 9pm Saturday, then again 8am - 6pm Sunday. That is total time, from start to total finish, which included washing the car, inside and out, and rainex on the car. So completely done.

The system sounds fantastic and the backup camera is fun as well.

It was totally worth it, it's like a new car now :)

This also has Bluetooth now, with the microphone which is hidden in the dome light and full steering wheel controls for the Bluetooth and audio controls.

lol damn the reddit search! Before starting all of this I was actually looking for a subreddit like that, that would allow me to bounce some questions back and forth...oh well :) I'll post the results there anyway! Thanks.

Knock on wood, I didn't break any fasteners at all. It is a 2009 car so that might have helped.

yea you wouldn't believe how fast time flies when you do shit like this. It was like 8 am... one blink of an eye....3pm...and then it's 9pm! It's just crazy, the days went by like nothing. But the excitement keeps you going. I couldn't imagine doings this for someone else. It just takes a special kind of love to do it.

Thank you! Yea I spend a lot of time researching before pulling the trigger. And totally agree with you with the power wire and firewall. And I didn't drill a new hole (which is also bad), but ran it through a grommet that was already there :)

I've configured controls to my steering wheel so hardly ever have to look at it. Other than that, it's really no different than a phone touch screen. Responsive, and cool to play with.

Honestly PissinChicken is right though. When you let others install stuff for you, you don't know what they broke off, scratched, or what corners they cut when they worked on it. It's not "their" car so they don't put in the care and love that you would to your car.

Obviously if you can't DYI something you have to let others do it, but I'm always weary about other people touching my car, no matter what it is.

No you have to buy a 2 DIN dash kit. This is the one that fit my car. Don't let the Amazon pic deceive you, it looks nothing like that int he box. As you can see in my pics, it fits perfectly into my dash.

Yea from the outside it looks totally plain, all my speakers are hidden. As far as mounting the sub, I didn't use the provided hardware, since my sub moves with the rear seats, I didn't want it to be stationary in case I need to move some long items. So i used L brackets to hook it all together, and painted them black, so they are pretty invisible with the woofer.

I got the Pioneer avh p8400bh. I love it and it's awesome, except it's designed for Apple iPhones, but I have an android, so not all of the App functions work with it, but I don't really care about those.

I checked prices for this same set up around town. Cheapest I could get was $2800.... I did it all myself for under $1000!

Yep it sure does! It's hard wired, as soon as I turn on my lights, it dims down. You can then over ride the brightness if you like.

A simple and overlooked tip: Walk to the gym. by Phatshady912in Fitness

[–]madcaesar 5 points6 points ago

My gym is 1.5 miles away and I would LOVE to jog there and back, but there is no safe route to jog. Running by 4 lane traffic with people on their cellphones and putting on make up and eating just isn't worth the risk for me. And then waiting at stop lights being bombarded by vehicle exhaust fumes.

So yea, while I'd love to, for some it just isn't a viable option.

[Help] Turn on GPS when App is launched, then turn it off. by madcaesarin tasker

[–]madcaesar[S] 0 points1 point ago

Oh ok great, I have the exit task part set up. But it still doesn't work...

Have you gotten Tasker to turn on GPS automatically?

Edit: Yes I'm rooted, and yes I have Secure Settings Installed, with the Helper pack.
