I had to attend a Unemployment Seminar today to keep my unemployment benefits. I really need to vent due to the advice given. It was horrible. by Athrowawayfortodayin self

they want to avoid applicants if they will be a drain on the health insurance, take sick days, etc.

Can you blame an employer if they turn down an employee who will be a drain on their system when they can hire someone that is not?

I'm visiting St. Paul this weekend. Can someone recommend a good beer store? by SiflnOlyin twincitiessocial

Four Firkins

It only sells beer, good beer. It is the place to go. It is easy to get to now that it has moved to St. Louis Park.

One day in Minneapolis. What do I do? by cookie_partiein twincitiessocial

It is totally worth it. It is a brewpub. Some of the best beers that you will drink.

On that note, I recommend the rooftop bar at Solara downtown, but the weather is not right for it today.

Last night, I had the pleasure of attending the best concert of my life. /r/music, what's the best concert you've ever attended? by Apotheosis91in Music

[–]lroselg 0 points1 point ago

I saw them get booed off stage in 93. They were followed by the Butthole Surfers who had bottles and shit thrown at them. Then the headlining Stone Temple Pilots threatened to not play. Worst concert experience of my life. I was really looking forward to all three bands.

I must confess. I'm a long-time David Bowie fan, but never liked this song until last year. by LostSoulRnRin Music

I wonder when you will find Oh, you pretty things or eight line poem. Both are deeper cuts that are pretty awesome in the same way as Life on Mars.

Michigan School Suspends 60 High School Seniors for biking to school... banned from annual last day Senior walk through school by railroad-redditorin bicycling

I am a teacher and I get to school 1/2 hour to 1 hour early. I am required to be to school 15 minutes early. Why would it show poor work habits if I were showing up to work at the required time? Teachers in my school that show up at the required time usually leave at about 4 whereas I leave at 3:15. We all do our jobs, but we do some things at different times.

The article stated that this activity directly interfered with their busing.

kept busses and staff from reaching school on time

Another article stated that this was the only road into the school.

we don't bite people.

This is not rationalizing. This is rule setting. Kids that are almost 3 understand this.

My first attempt at woodworking, I made two picture frames. They aren't perfect, but I'm proud of them. by bizfamoin DIY

That will be strong but not elegant. I would hand drill pilot holes with a brad instead of a drill bit and use a few nails. I am guessing that you used a nail gun. Just do it by hand, you have more control.

You can also build a nifty corner vice instead of using bar clamps for your joinery. For my home shop I used a piece of plywood as a base for my corner vice. I screwed two 2x2s in a right angle to the face of the plywood. I made sure to leave a 2" gap at the corner of the 90 degree. This works a fence that you can clamp your mouldings to. This allows me to get really tight corners. It is a home made ghetto version of one of these

Coming from a professional framer, those are as good as it gets with most framers. I don't know how strong your joints are, but they look really tight. Glued and nailed is how I go with most profiles. This molding is a bit wide for just nails, but they will hold.

Is it wrong to have a favourite? by [deleted]in Parenting

I feel like I favor my son over my daughter sometimes. He is 3 and she is 6. I hold her to higher expectations and sometimes it feels like I am favoring him. I know that she feels it.

I hate to lol at this, but your description of this iconic scene sounded like some warped episode of Scooby Doo. Sorry to have exposed you to this again but glad that I could help solve a mystery from your youth.

North Carolina passes gay marriage ban Amendment One - The Washington Post by rajma45in news

[–]lroselg -1 points0 points ago

most other states and countries are in the process of expanding gay rights?

In the US more than half of the states have laws, or statutes that ban gay marriage. Only a small handful of states have legalized gay marriage, or domestic partnerships. This amendment would pass in most states in the union. MN has an amendment on the ballot this fall that will define marriage as between a man and a woman. It will likely pass even though MN has a large liberal population.

It seems to me that though there have been a few states that have legalized gay marriage in the past few years, more have been moving to ban it.

Ha, yeah my dad also bought a 72 Vette as a 3rd year teacher. So when he was a young dude he had 2 of the hottest cars on the road and no car payments. I as a 10th year teacher don't want to get into a new car because payments would be $300+/month. yuck.

It was much easier to buy a car in cash in 69 than it was to pay tuition for 3 kids in the 90s. Also he did not have kids at the time and probably wasn't thinking about that when he was 22.

I took 5 months off this winter, Last summer I was up to mid 5.11 at the gym and mid 5.10 outdoor. Came back this March and I was back down to struggling with 5.10 at the gym. Time off can be a killer.

My dad paid for 4 years at the UofMinnesota by working construction jobs in the summer. He paid for tuition, rent, food, books and car. When he was done at the U, he bought a top of the line 68 Chevelle brand new off of the showroom floor in cash. Imagine being able to do that today. He always regrets that he couldn't pay for college for his three kids.

I know that Bauhaus was technically post punk but they really had the punk attitude on their first album. I see In the Flat Field as a totally punk album, though released in 78 and inspired by the earlier punk movement.
