The 12 Year Old Girl Who Silenced the World by Vapoureonin videos

[–]logrusmage 0 points1 point ago

as is asserting that a 12 year old, simply because she is 12, would have no idea what she is talking about.

I haven't asserted that at all. I'm assert that she has no idea what she's talking about because when she talks in the video, she talks nonsense.

Yes, she has at the very least tried extremely hard to fix actual problems

I disagree. Actual problems exist, but environmentalist "problems" are rarely actual problems.

Not everything in life is as black and white as you make them out to be

Everything in life can be defined as good or bad. Denying that is silly. Yes, their are varying degrees of good and bad, but you cannot take something clearly bad and call it good because it has a few good elements.

but the point of her speech was to make people think about the issue

This is only a good thing if the issue matters. In this case, it does not.

You have obvious disdain for the environmental movement

Yep. Because it is neither logical nor reasonable.

I have the opinion that if this same girl made an almost identical speech but it was about something you strongly believed in

It would have had to be reasonable. And I would support it because it was reasonable.

It worked for me

Because you ignore reason.

Because I say so.

Is not reason.

Just don't tell me you have choice since it is about as much conscious choice as breathing air.

What? I can choose to buy the higher priced product... I simply don't.

You really can't see the difference between choosing to buy a product and being forced to do something under the threat of violence?

Mirrodin. Fuck everything about it. It caused me to leave the game for many years thinking power-creep had totally ruined it.

[–]logrusmage -1 points0 points ago

Being naked, willing, and even attractive is not enough, unless you also put work into emulating the pornographic ideal most guys have been conditioned to admire since they were old enough to turn on a computer.

Bullshit. Total bullshit. You know nothing of men if you think this is at all true. The fact that a few picky assholes exist does not make any of this even remotely accurate.

The kid who bullied me for 5 years had a terrible accident and is in a coma. For some reason, I'm kind of happy. Anyone have some advice here? by 240to180in AskReddit

For some reason? You're not no better than he is. You've done nothing to him. Poetic justice feels good sometimes, don't feel guilt for feeling good at the misfortune of someone who treated you badly.

That being said, don't actually hurt people who treat you badly.

Reddit, what are some awful things you've seen teachers/professors/lecturers do to their students? by idk_reallyin AskReddit

[–]logrusmage 2 points3 points ago

this was 30+ girls and 30+ guys watching this happen

I'd say they're all as culpable as the teacher was.

Guess how my microbiology professor got the idea to use microorganisms to turn waste products into usable fuel.

I'm pretty sure that idea is basically useless unless you can actually MAKE the microorganism that can do that...

I am unconvinced that income taxes are the correct vector for social engineering programs.

Is there any correct (or moral for that matter) vector for "social engineering"?

SS can be dangerous too.

Most things can be. But SS doesn't encourage you to do anything dangerous directly, which Xfit does by encouraging speed and "creative" exhaustion.

[–]logrusmage -3 points-2 points ago

Xfit is physically dangerous. Ss is not. Thats a pretty big difference. I've seen people seriously injure themselves attempting xfits retarded "do everything really fast with weights" paradigm. insanity and p90x don't use heavy weights ort complex movements that risk injury if done with bad form.

I do believe Upton Sinclair was a journalist, and had repeatedly seen plants of various purposes, and that the book was a fictional account of a plant worker who lived in the sort of archtypical factory town.

True, but he had never been in THE TYPE OF FACTORY HE WROTE ABOUT. I think that is a pretty damn important distinction.

But, of course, we all know that fictional works carry no weight, no matter how much they are based off of reality.

Except Sinclair's work WASN'T based on reality. That is what I'm trying to tell you. He vastly exaggerated everything. We call it yellow journalism/muckraking for a reason.

[–]logrusmage 0 points1 point ago

She's 12 in this clip.

Exactly. She has no idea what she's talking about.

She's 32 now and has spent 23 of those 32 years doing tremendous work in the field of environmentalism.

Link? I have no idea who she is. Has she fixed actual problems (IE things that effect human kind) or has she moved suffering around (IE made humans suffer to prevent "environmental" suffering)?

This girl has some serious emotional attachment to her work, and was clearly shoving her own political point forward using the tools she had at the ready, which included her age and her emotions.

I'm saying those tools cannot make a valid argument on their own, and they did not.

What you're looking at is passion for a cause being vocalized effectively, and that should be applauded.

<Insert Godwin Here>

. In many cases your argument might be valid, but in this case your argument seems to be at the same time proving and disproving itself.

How so? My only argument is that she essentially said nothing at all.

You seem a little too emotionally attached to your point, so much so that you can't see what's actually going on.

...What?

You have not addressed my argument at all, you've merely asserted that the girl should be applauded because she said something. Saying something is not worth praise if the something is mostly if not entirely wrong or meaningless, as it was in this case.
