Walgreens draws a line in the sand by OhioPharmacistsin pharmacy

About time someone stood up to these PBMs. The chains used to get rich off of low staff hours that hurt patient care. Now the PBMs are cutting in for a piece of the pie. Pharmacies need a big change and PBMs are not the answer.

Why do you think Ron Paul is winning the youth vote? by GeorgeWalkerKushin politics

[–]libertarian_rx 0 points1 point ago

Simply put, the youth aren't as gullible as the older generation. The old guard is clinging to a party that is no longer the same party they grew up with. The GOP of the past stood for small government, capitalism, & solid respect for the Constitution. I believe the youth have less to cling to.

Let's face it, what has the youth (18-29 year olds) experienced from the GOP? As much as I want to defend Reagan to death, he still oversaw massive government growth & deficit spending. He also had a laser focus on the drug war, which is something that youths understand as expensive and intrusive. Even the youths against legalization will admit that despite the government's best efforts, drugs are still easy to access, and the war on drugs is largely a war that is unwinnable.

After Reagan was Bush Sr, who is essentially remembered for dragging us into an expensive 20+ year military engagement in the Middle East, and more importantly, raising taxes after vehemently saying he wouldn't.

Then we had the largely forgettable Bob Dole, who I'm sure many just remember as dull.

Then you have W, who is considered one of the worst Presidents in US history. And that's not just for ticky tacky stuff. We were told W was a fiscal conservative. He cut taxes, but all while running a deficit. He launched a War on Terror that turned out to be a war on something else. He is responsible for mounting the largest growth in debt ever, second only to Obama. W grew the scope of government exponentially with items like the Patriot Act. Oh, and he also bailed out the banks.

Then the GOP gave us John McCain - someone who would continue Bush's foreign policy efforts, continue to spend more money we don't have, and someone who disgraced defenders of the Second Amendment.

Now the GOP gives us Romney, Gingrich, and Santorum - guys who have no track record and frankly have no trust in cutting spending, reducing regulations, advocating for personal liberty, stopping foreign wars & aid, and more importantly, have not shown anyone that they are incapable of being bought & sold.

On top of all this, it's time to face the facts. This country is getting less and less religious. Sure atheists are a big minority, but more relevant is the fact that agnosticism and secularism is growing. Young people understand that this country is diverse and are tolerant enough to say "To each his own." Most young people aren't threatened by minorities, forgeigners, gays, & others' religions. Thus the social agenda of neoconservatives sends young people running.

So maybe the youth support for Ron Paul is simply because there's no one else left to support when Barack Obama has shown that he is just as corrupt as the rest, and that his eloquent speeches are merely just words that carry no meaning. Or maybe Ron Paul has struck a chord in the youths who say they've been around for a short time, but they've already seen enough of what the old guard has to offer. Sure they may not believe in every little thing Dr. Paul says, but more importantly, they trust his word, they agree with the principles, and they recognize that the mainstream brought us into this current mess, and it's going to take something radically different to pull us out.

No joke: Newt Gingrich supports the death penalty for 2 ounces of marijuana by libertarian_rxin Marijuana

Don't shoot the messenger folks. I'm merely referencing Gary Johnson & the author of the article. Furthermore, the important takeaway here is that PHILOSOPHICALLY, Newt Gingrich supports the death penalty for marijuana drug trafficking. Deal breaker.

Ron Paul: Marijuana Policy Should Be Set By The States by Mind_Virusin Marijuana

[–]libertarian_rx 0 points1 point ago

I understand your point. Personally, I think it all should be legal and protected Constitutionally. Philosophically, we should be supporting the right to life - the right to do what you want with your life so long is it does not intrude on others' rights to do the same. While Dr. Paul may not advocate that anything goes, I think he would philosophically agree with my point. Either way, crack, cocaine, PCP, etc are fine by themselves - haven't done them personally, but what should be illegal are violent acts committed while using them, not the drugs themselves. That's when you open the door for bans on all types of things, most notably alcohol and marijuana.

Good question. I don't have a good answer for it. I think it is one of the inherent flaws in the US structure. My personal belief is that the freedom to consume or own is one that should be upheld by the Constitution, just like Freedom of Speech. I'm not sure why that is not not the case. I look at drugs as a property rights issue that should not be trumped by state or local law. Ideally, we would be free to own or consume whatever we want, which I feel falls under your right to life & liberty. Thus, any law inhibiting that right would be unconstitutional.

Alcohol was banned under the 18th Amendment, which was repealed, thus allowing states to create their own rules - some of which are lame like PA's. Drug prohibition has come about from court cases and by taking some liberties with the interstate commerce clause. Technically, the Constitution allows for drug legalization, and frankly, legalization of lots of things that have been otherwise restricted. What must happen is that the corrupt translations of the commerce clause must be corrected. From my understanding, I'm not sure how much power the President has in this matter other than stacking the Supreme Court with defenders of liberty, and then having a state legalize and take to battle to the high court.

Problem is that states will end up creating their own policy anyway. Letting states decide for themselves is a de facto across-the-board legalization. Just like alcohol, it's legalized across the country and states create their own policies as it pertains to that law. Unfortunately, since acts of government typically intrude on personal liberty, you have laws like Pennsylvania's that heavily restrict access to alcohol or even sillier ones like in Utah, where they have banned happy hour specials. That is an intrinsic problem in a government that has too much authority and flexibility. So letting states decide is not only constitutional, but it's the quickest way for weary states to realize that drugs aren't nearly the big deal they've been made out to be.
