TROPHY CASE

Really trying to break into the Chicago scene and need some help starting to play shows. by lerxstlifesonin chicagomusicscene

I've tried e-mailing the club directly, but are there any other places I should e-mail? Maybe I'm going about this the wrong way.

Do you play with anyone we would know?

What would the different wattage amounts do for the speaker? Just change the rate at which it starts to break up with natural distortion?

What kind of celestion speakers do you think would be good for it then?

It's not exactly hard to make a better porter than Guiness.

Also just looked at the Mutiny, unfortunately we won't be able to play there since some of our members are under 21.

I sent them a message through facebook. Here's hoping that they don't view us as snakes trying to cut into their profits. Unfortunately I've known a lot of people that view it like that.

I think the best thing The Edge has going for him is he's not Bono.

A disturbingly large portion of guitarists seem to only care about technical ability though. Personally, I love George because I think he was a great songwriter.

But Mastodon formed in 2000, and Baroness formed in 2003. By the time Baroness had formed, Mastodon was already working on their second album. By the time Red Album came out, Mastodon had already done the sound that Baroness would basically be doing as well. They were obviously very influenced by their fellow Georgians.

He isn't usually held in too high of regard by most guitarists for his technical ability I'd say.

I suppose we have different taste then. Crack the Skye is probably one of my favorite albums of all time.

Their sound wasn't necessarily unique, but they were one of the bands that did that Georgia sludge sound the best.

Personally I really liked The Hunter. I wouldn't want Mastodon to make Crack the Skye II, I wanted them to make something different and they did while still keeping a lot of what makes them great. I'm not hearing it on this new Baroness.

Wow. This is incredibly disappointing so far. Where's the heaviness? My brother has always jokingly referred to Baroness as Mastodon light, but now they aren't too far off of a crappy commercial rock band. I'm not usually one to hate it when a band changes their sound up a little, but there's almost nothing of the Baroness I like on this.

It was my first time going to a show there. It was great, but I think my favorite is still the Riviera.

Just saw these guys last night at the Metro in Chicago, front row. They put on a great show.

What newer metal bands do you think will stand the test of time? by BillMaher4Presidentin Metal

[–]lerxstlifeson 0 points1 point ago

Their last album debuted in the Top 10 albums on the charts. That's a pretty big deal. If you mean they'll never be Metallica "huge" though, I agree and hope they aren't. Smaller concerts are way more fun.

Danny Carey plays poly-rhythms which are incredibly difficult. He's essentially playing two different rhythms at the same time by doing this. He is the drummer from Tool, which I do believe qualifies as metal. I could go into the host of other drummers that play in bands that aren't about speed that are still metal, but I have a feeling you aren't interested.
