I don't know, nor do I claim to know. Do you?

Atheists, how do you explain the extremely low chances for us existing as just a coincidence? by bryce1234in DebateAnAtheist

[–]lemursteamer 0 points1 point ago

You are thinking about this wrong. Considering the fact that we do exist, the odds are good enough. There is no indication a god exists, so the odds are very poor. The odds are stacked against you, friendo.

Need help with a 7th day Adventist at work by Eleven_incin DebateAnAtheist

Do not talk religion at work. It is extremely dangerous if you wish to keep your job. If he becomes beligerant, speak to management.

To Atheists: I once heard somebody pose this question, and I like the simplicity behind it... by 2min2midin DebateReligion

Their belief in heaven incurs a cost. They are forced to accept numerous other things since it is part of their religion. Those things can be destructive to society. The cost can be too great to sit idly by and watch.

I applied the same standards of evidence I use for every other instance in my life to religious claims. Its not about making yourself happy, its about finding truth. I choose to not be delusional.

To Atheists: Let's Talk Marriage by nasch890in DebateReligion

[–]lemursteamer 0 points1 point ago

The ceremony is fun, you get cake, various benefits of marriage including health care, survivor benefits etc, and marriage is a cultural institution, not a religious one. If so, why am I allowed to marry as an atheist?

The point is that theists only say that marriage is a religious institution. If I get 51% of the population to say that dirt can cure blindness, that doesn't make it true.

I'm going to be living on my own for the first time and I'm pretty nervous about it. What are some good, basic, cheap meals I can make? by _wafflefriesin Cooking

[–]lemursteamer 0 points1 point ago

RICE COOKER!

PASTA!

SOUP!

Above all, experiment. Go to www.epicurious.com and just follow the instructions. Like my Dad always says, "if you can read, you can cook".

I'm serious about the soup, so cheap and so many meals.

Why call yourself atheist, if you could just call yourself a skeptic? by SaysNotAtheismin DebateAnAtheist

[–]lemursteamer 0 points1 point ago

Possibly, but skeptisism does answer the specific question about gods. One could be skeptical, but still feel their belief in gods existing is justified. Not all skeptics are atheists and not all atheists are skeptics.

Against.

You cannot force people to abandon religious ideas. It simply does not work without a terrible cost.
