PSA: You can still play the Torchlight 2 beta with a "crack"! by SNAAAAAAAAAKEin Torchlight

[–]leetality -2 points-1 points ago

Piracy isn't limited to costing someone money, it's when you disregard the owner's rights and take it upon yourself to hand out their product without permission. The same reason people on Reddit hate when sources aren't credited for artwork. Also, the beta wasn't given to anyone who signed up, they had a chance to receive a key in a random draw; there are in fact many who did not get to play the beta.

But comparing modding to free distribution of a product? Really? The ferret was just thrown in for box buyers as a little nifty bonus but hardly an exclusive benefit as they paid the same price any digital customers did. This is actually why Runic isn't crazy about paid DLC or expansions either with a game that gives the users the ability to add any of it in for free. Which is why something like the ferret won't happen again.

I imagine they simply don't want the mass of the public playing their unfinished product and making judgement calls when it's a WIP. And a demo wouldn't let you play endlessly so you actually buy the product if you want it. They limit you just enough to see if you like it rather than give away a quarter of their product for free.

But it's not your product or your place to decide what's right for Runic. Piracy is piracy and this removes the complete purpose of having an exclusive invite only beta event.

You should really ask for permission before doing things like this if you actually care about the game or the developers.

My first boss in Torchlight II was more difficult and engaging than the last boss in Diablo III. by karmadragonin Torchlight

[–]leetality 2 points3 points ago

It's never been in open beta. You need to be invited or obtain a key to connect and make a game server.

Beta ends tonight sadly. Not sure if there'll be another phase before release. Bummer for your friends missing out but if they like the Diablo franchise TL2 is a solid buy regardless at the pricetag and freedom it offers.

TL2 difficulty scales with players; bosses can be exceptionally hard with 4+ players, even the first one. Problem with difficulty modes in D3 is the increase in stats and nothing else. Mechanics don't really change, more don't spawn, that little group of 3 things just so happen to oneshot you quite often now until you somehow upgrade your gear via wiping constantly.

The loot system is poorly done as are difficulty levels in D3. It needs a lot of tweaking (shit they nerfed the only two classes capable of doing inferno runs). I think it's a big problem that stems from having to play through each difficulty with the same character rather than starting from one set difficulty from the get go.

I think it's safe to assume they aren't using databases unknown to mankind and he could possibly be right. Someone's a little bitter for some reason.

Or it's to illustrate the ease of solving this problem and anyone that knows SQL can confirm his statement.

I am very late to Torchlight... by SplinkJKin Torchlight

[–]leetality 3 points4 points ago

I presume you're playing Torchlight 1 and if that's the case I would suggest to not let it cloud your judgement of the series as TL2 improves on every flaw and then some.

After playing some of the beta and trying to play some TL1 again, I simply couldn't. I couldn't stand going back to it because TL2 is that good.

If you liked D1/D2 - keep an eye on TL2 ($20 on Steam/$15 if you get a 4pack!) as it's closer to the Diablo franchise than D3 is in it's current state (sadly).

Question for all of you avid fans: Should I buy this game? by VertigoFallin Torchlight2

[–]leetality 0 points1 point ago

DRM is typically associated with games that require always on internet connections to have undisrupted play. TL2 does not suffer from that even with being on Steam as it's P2P servers. You can probably even run the client outside of Steam if you choose. :)

Loving the beta so far. Here's a pic of my berzerker. Post your character! by tehsam016in Torchlight

[–]leetality 0 points1 point ago

The full game will have 36 armor sets excluding 6 unique sets for each class.

Adding up to a possible total of 60 sets all in all. This is just beta at the moment.

[–]leetality 2 points3 points ago

It's actually a pretty big deal for many people. A lot purchased D3 solely for solo play and have to deal with server issues and maintenance days as a result of DRM. TL2 will have none of these issues on launch.

And kiting is still kind of quite common in hack n slash when on higher difficulty. You'll find it happens in Elite TL2 just as much as in Inferno D3.

[–]leetality -3 points-2 points ago

I'm pretty sure they did in fact exploit the respawning chest in inferno mode to free farm gear until it was patched out.

I also believe they didn't progress through all the acts as a team and solo'd a lot of the bosses up until Diablo.

Kind of lame in my opinion all in all.

I asked in a general sense, I didn't ask if he likes D3 as it's quite different but not terrible.

TL2 plays more like D2 than D3 does and improves a lot of the flaws D2 had like the things you mention.

It's an awesome game and definitely worth the pricetag regardless of your feelings towards D3.

Do you like Diablo? Do you hate DRM? THEN YES! YES! YES!

So Beta Testers, what is your favourite class to play so far? by somecoloursin Torchlight2

[–]leetality 0 points1 point ago

I really like Engineer. I think it was the last one I tried and ended up the one I love most. The versatility/raw power while also being the most supportive is just so fulfilling and I can't wait to play it on release with friends!

Yeah, I died a little once I realized what I was reading. I was looking for a positive review and of all of the posts I land on his, don't check the name first, then after catching 3 characters I quickly scroll away.

Can not unsee. :(

The real reason there is no offline play by odd84in Diablo

[–]leetality 0 points1 point ago

I realize that now, I'm suggesting perhaps if they had set priorities for offline/lan play and then have had the servers emulate what they coded there; we'd be a little better of? Meh. I just think they could have handled this a lot better given the time they had to make this game.

The real reason there is no offline play by odd84in Diablo

[–]leetality 1 point2 points ago

Is it really too much to ask for the ability to create an offline ONLY character for cases like these; and nothing attached to it can be transferred to the online servers?

I feel that'd eliminate a lot of these complaints and issues. Hell you could even add LAN support for those offline only characters and this DRM via RMAH wouldn't be so detrimental to the gameplay.

Maybe then people could actually play the game they paid $60 for, you know?

I want to try this game so bad before I commit $60 to it. A US guest code would be greatly appreciated and I'll return the favor if I decide to buy!

Dear Riot, Please can we see runes in spectator mode? by munchkinatorin leagueoflegends

[–]leetality 0 points1 point ago

All you guys listing ways to figure this out.. kinda ignores the purpose of this request.

It's probably safe to say that any of us bothering to spectate know we could look them up on a website, or once the game ends, or google the base stats and do math.

It'd be pretty awesome if we didn't have to go to such lengths in the first place to see something so impactful on the game outside of the game hence the point of this post.
