Must watch 'Exorcist Style' dance from So You Think You Can Dance [Starts at 0:45] by jyosefin videos

[–]kylev 28 points29 points ago

To a degree I agree with you. However, imitation, expansion and variation are all forms of creation. I think he's taken popping and varied it enough with music choice, pacing, and adding the element of interpretive dance to warrant calling it something new(-ish).

I've enjoyed popping a lot as it has evolved (particularly as it just plain looks cool), but I found that his performance to be a little something special.

It's only white knighting if you actually think you're doing them a favor or might get sex. Otherwise it's just fighting sexism because it's fucking wrong.

Right there with you. I get a sinking feeling every time I see a thumbnail with a woman in it: I feel obligated to go in and down-vote the most egregious and sexist nonsense.

Vietnamese Coffee anyone? by jam_sandwich123in videos

I have repeatedly tried to not order it in the Bay Area (San Francisco) and have almost always failed. What an amazing summer treat.

Gah! The iced variation of this is a total weakness for me! In the SF area, I can't not order it at the Vietnamese places.

I had a catch-all on my domains for a while, too. Then I got joe-jobbed (someone ran a large spam campaign with fake "From" in my domain) and things got unbearable. It kept happening, and then someone sold a spam list with everyfirstname@mydomain.tld. By the time I shut down the catch-all, my anti-spam setup was stopping 10's of thousands of emails per day.

In case you're wondering: Yes, Citi field, being a brand new park and in New York, does offer free public Wifi. All these folks are being bathed in Wifi Internet goodness (unless they turned it off).

Some kid in the LA area who shares some of my name/initials used my email address when signing up for all sorts of MySpace-era Internet services. I was amazed how few required him to receive the confirmation email, but sent me a "welcome, and here is your password" email.

I ended up watching over the kid's shoulder for about 2 or 3 years. He fell in and out of love (with girls he never talked to, seemingly a new one every week), tried to breed chinchillas, and was generally a lame teenager. It was kind of endearing and nostalgic, really.

Eventually the spam and other crap he kept signing me up for got annoying (and I felt a little creepy) so I decided to end it. I knew enough about him to find his father's construction business and drop him an email telling him that his moronic son was causing me some grief and that he needed to sign up for his own email account.

I glanced at his MySpace inbox one last time and found him chatting up a girl and telling her about some loser that claimed to be owner of the email address he'd been using for signups, asserting that I must be lonely, short, fat, and ugly. I then took the only interventionist act I'd ever taken, and replied to the thread informing him that I was quite happy, fit, and 6'4"... and that he ought not bad-mouth the guy he moronically handed all his security credentials to until after changing his password.

Then I signed off.

Skeptic Reddit and Do Follow Links adding page rank to disinformation by Aegistin skeptic

[–]kylev[M] 2 points3 points ago

I have considered enforcing a self-posts-only rule about linking for "negative skepticism" (pointing and laughing types of things, rather than links to skeptical writing or resources). If there is much of a page rank to be conveyed, it'll be less inside a post. It also requires that the person posting include some explanation or initial analysis to go with their post rather than just linking to "hey, look at this crap I found".

Yeah, the risk to the guy running the hose was a big thing. He's the only pit member that had to be in a position inside the wheel tracks and work to get out of the way of the car before release. If the rig stuck a bit and the flag man was a bit jumpy, the car would move before this pit member was clear of the tires, and injury was almost certain.

I think this is where the talent of the drivers really plays out, shifting the outcome toward driver skill in a really powerful way. A great driver can handle the car through changing balance.

I was skeptical at first, but I actually enjoy things without the refueling. We've had some more exciting races the last couple of years.

Granted, we don't get the excitement of Hamilton Kovalainen driving off with the hose attached and Kimi blowing up as he drives through the spray, but that's kind of ok.

You can go a long way on a 2.4 liter engine that makes 800 horse power and spins at 18,000 RPM. Granted, they also did lengthen the car specs when they removed refueling in order to make more room for tanks.

Eliminating refueling really did make the sport safer, too. It also shifted a bunch of technical challenges around, as well, creating interesting competition and trade offs. For example, how does one set up a car that will weigh several hundred pounds less at the end of the race?

Yeah, you should poke around a bit on skeptic blogs about the author, Dana Ullman. He is a homeopathy true-believer.

Montagnier is suffering from Nobel Disease. His accomplishments and results should be evaluated independently lest we fall for an argument from authority.

I have a feeling that using "faggot" is incredibly unnecessary. Pick any other insult that doesn't catch an already marginalized minority as collateral damage.

Honestly, it is my new reddit-hobby to predict which posts in various sub-reddits will attract the worst of the worst and down-vote or report all of them. I find a strange glee in driving another nail in the coffin of a comment that already has so many down-votes that it has been hidden.

It's pretty amazing how harshly I've been treated when I've suggested "self-policing" places like r/atheism so they're female-friendly. The audacity of the cake-and-eat-it-too dudes that want to get LULZ with "tits or GTFO" and also complain that girls are too easily alienated by such "humor" is jaw-dropping.
