TROPHY CASE

Best argument I've ever seen for the Oxford Comma by paxanimusin writing

[–]krush_groove 0 points1 point ago

Who would put 'the' in front of 'strippers' in that sentence?

I wasn't an English major, I've just generally always had a good sense of grammar and spelling, and I have never used the Oxford comma, and I wasn't taught about it in school. Every now and then I hear the term and have to be reminded what it is. I don't think I miss it.

RIP Harry

A sign should be put on the bike, saying 'wear your helmets'.

This year for my birthday, if my friends asked me what I wanted, I said "your favorite book". Here's some of the loot. by HlynurBjornin books

Great idea, but I can only wish I had that many friends that read, much less that many that ask me what I want for my birthday!

Well at least most of them have been downvoted now. Sometimes the downvotes get it right!

Sadly, every top-level reply so far (apart from OP's) refers to atomic bombs.

Come on, people.

Yup, very similar. Top sports team = (for some reason) big seller in foreign market, even if the sport isn't popular in that market.

I see this all the time in the UK (I'm from the US). Major grocery chains have clothing sections where US-related clothing are 90's-era fashion from the US, or NY Yankees caps/shirts.

What are your "simple living" hobbies? by lightningfriesin simpleliving

[–]krush_groove 2 points3 points ago

I've tried to cut down on the amount of hobbies I have and partake in, mostly because I have too much stuff but also because I have limited time to devote to all the various hobbies I'd like to have (I really need to be retired to do all the stuff I want to do!).

Ideally I'd like to keep all my hobby stuff for each hobby contained in one stackable crate (the type made from plastic with and interlocking lid) or a comparable size cardboard box, but I've realized that for my 'main' hobbies that's impossible. Stuff for RC cars (which is also a side job), DVD cases, camping stuff, etc., all are way too numerous and bulky to be contained in just one crate, but for other hobbies like bicycling it's fairly easy to put that stuff in one crate (apart from the bike, of course).

Doing stuff like buying games off Steam helps keep the physical bulk down, but I still have bookshelves of books, plus lots of things I've recently unpacked that I will sort into piles: Keep, Give Away, (try to) Sell.

One thing I've taken up recently is building various bits of garden furniture from pallets taken from my workplace: album of pictures of a Bar/garden table, a bench, and long bench made from pallets

That's better than the catfish bait I used to prank a ton of people into thinking was dog crap smeared in the Porta-potties one hot weekend many years ago.

What keeps a nail attached to a toe or finger? Once the nail grows out of the "base", why does it grow still stuck to the skin up until the tip of the finger or toe? by kohakumidoriin askscience

[–]krush_groove 67 points68 points ago

So what is the white bit at the base of the nail, where it comes from under the skin?

I didn't say it's hard to install. I said it's 'difficult to figure out how to use the 'normal' internet'. For the average user. Install TOR and tell a friend who's never used it to 'surf the web'.

[–]krush_groove 0 points1 point ago

I have, and the wiki isn't very helpful (50%+ dead links and 40%+ sites I'm not interested in), the bandwidth is slow for whatever reason and it's difficult to figure out how to use the 'normal' internet.

The average computer user won't want to use any 'service' that touts free access to murder and pedo websites.

e: it's funny that I'm being downvoted for saying what's it's like to use TOR. It's not the be-all, end-all solution.

TOR right now like is like the internet pre-WWW: not easy to use and pretty limited in what you can find on it (for the average computer user). It's good to know and get used to, but it's unnecessary to learn it considering any TPB user in the UK can just use https://tpb.pirateparty.org.uk/

This is a bit overkill for how easy it is to get around the block.

Ah, I think you'd need to have an account (it's free to sign up), you can have a bunch of different albums as a free user. Then you can edit image names and descriptions, and album pictures.

You can add photos to an existing album, just fyi.

Great picture set!

Amish Cooking on VHS tapes... by Carleyjaynein Cooking

I'm aware she isn't Amish, but it's funny to think that someone produced a series of video tapes for Amish people to watch (which I know isn't the case, which makes it funny).
