That extension appears to inject a hidden div containing mixpanel tracking code to every page one opens. I would be a little cautious about this extension, especially since the author does not mention adding this.

I remember I started with IDLE. It's very simple and easy to use, but it's written using TKinter, meaning it looks pretty non-standard compared to most modern GUIs on Linux.

On a debian based system you can install it with

sudo apt-get install idle
