Simon Singh: In 2008, I published a piece here in the Guardian pointing out that the British Chiropractic Association was promoting treatments that were not backed by any worthwhile evidence. Instead of debating the evidence, they sued me for libel by maxwellhillin TrueReddit

High-performing sports people actually seem to be more susceptible to nonsense than the average person. They tend to be more attracted to a range of things like alternative treatments, "spiritual" and energy-based woo, superstitious lucky charms and gimmicks like those "holographic" or magnetic bracelets. I've heard this attraction explained as a way for these athletes to feel that they have a enhanced degree of control over the outcomes of their particular endeavours.

Samsung Galaxy S2 shattered Screen by andrewf87in AndroidQuestions

The courier actually never collected the old phone, and then I didn't hear from them in months. So.... 2 SGSII's for me. The crack in the screen is very small and only on the edge.

My carrier actually replaced it as an early life failure.

My SGSII actually developed a small mysterious crack soon after I first got it. Hadn't been dropped or anything, and I couldn't explain the crack. Just picked i[ up one day and noticed it.

I think either this or this is my favourite one of my GT-R.

Obligatory Q&A thread: Bob Brown by neciusin australia

[–]katamatsu 25 points26 points ago

The thing that really struck me was his manner. He managed to be respectful, engaging and informative throughout the show. I'm never been his biggest fan, but that performance gained him a lot of respect in my eyes. What an honest and kind man, regardless of what you think of his politics.

I think this every time One Direction, Kardashian etc. are mentioned on the news by boatswain1025in AdviceAnimals

How is it that I have never heard of One Direction before today, yet today I heard of them on four separate occasions? I didn't ask for this!

It has a single seat, a roll rage, a toe hook, camera mounts, semi-slicks... what do you think they do with it? I hate this knee-jerk reaction to wings. This is a perfect example of car that both suits a wing and probably derives some benefit from it.

Toyota's GT 86 Is the Perfect 30-Year-Old Car by Art-Vandelay-AIAin Autos

[–]katamatsu 0 points1 point ago

I don't really know to explain it any more than I have already. People who are looking forward to the gt86 don't consider the mr 2, mrs, s2000 or any of those cars to be equivalent. Or at least they haven't been satisfied by threw orwell experience of those cars.

Yeah thats kind if the point I guess. the convertibles you are taking about are tiny and compromised from that point of view. The type of car I'm taking about is functionally similar to any normal modern cheap fwd car, yet just happens to be an excellent rwd platform and provides that special driving experience. Nothing like THAT has existed for a while, which is why the gt86 is anticipated like it is.

Nope. First one I paid 1500 for about 8 years ago. Second one was 5 years ago for 5700. A decent e30 its more than both ae86s combined here. Australia by the way. Also, I didn't want an e30.

The specific formula of the GT-86 is something that has been forgotten and isn't currently available on the market. It isn't just simple, lightweight and rwd, it is also practical, usable and cheap. The s2000 isn't that, more is any BMW. Also, to a lot of people, convertibles don't count.

As an owner of 2 ae86's, I can honestly say that if a compelling new car with this formula existed I would already own it.

I was able to take some photos of my car next to the only PGC10 registered in my state. It was a bit of a special moment: http://imgur.com/a/jG73p#0. Had been waiting to see one of these for a long time.

Nice picture by the way!

[–]katamatsu[S] 2 points3 points ago

They are in a way. They are the first and last of that particular series of race-bred aggressive straight-six Skylines coupes. Skylines before the pgc10 were four-door Princes, and Skylines don't share any of that DNA. The new GT-R, despite being an incredible car, isn't a Skyline.

A couple of bonus shots by others that are much better than my crappy phone ones:

First one by this guy, and another one by this other guy. Just found these ones as well.

A few other interesting Nissan's there, including these beasts.

This is really cool. They must record the telemetry of a real car driving. The into says it simulates the Nurburgring.
