It's not illogical if you concede that God is evil.

Can you name some non-theistic groups in America today that are opposed to homosexuality?

Are the eugenics movements still relevant today? "Not having enough humans on earth" is not a problem we need to worry about.

If Noah's ark is meant to be taken as a metaphor, then what is the point of it being in the bible? by plissken627in DebateAChristian

For every section of great moral worth...there is a section that makes no coherent moral sense

In other words, The Bible can't be used as a moral guide. It requires moral reasoning outside The Bible to cherry-pick verses inside The Bible.

I think it also stems from desperation of the church. The church is losing followers at the fastest rate in history and they have been wrong on so many issues (medicines, witchcraft, slavery, women's rights, etc). If the church can't serve as the authority on morality, how can they expect to control people? The church is going after the remaining issues still under discussion (homosexuality, contraception, abortion, stem cells, etc) in attempt to convince people they know best. This is only going to hurt them further.

Interracial marriage issues stem from slavery, which the Bible has plenty to say about.

The Bible gets you from "eww" to "what you are doing should be illegal". Simply being disgusted by homosexuality is not enough to get a voting majority riled up.

This is heartbreaking to him

Apparently not heartbreaking enough for him to do a single thing to convince me he is real. I'm not asking for too much here, this is a god we're talking about.

Early Christians basically started killing Romans for being gay to eradicate it.

So is it fair to say that without this mechanism, anti-gay messages would be less prevalent? Data from other (less religious) countries seems to show this could be true.

I would like to see someone try to justify homosexuality using the Bible. If I were a moderate/liberal Christian I would be very frustrated with the contents of the book I chose to believe is true.

The anti-contraception and anti-abortion positions are still being driven by Christian messages. Where does the justification for these positions come from without Christianity?

Any why do it as such as long story with so many seemingly specific details if it is simply a metaphor?
