TROPHY CASE

Would all this be a good buy at $250? by nameofusein Bass

[–]jooes 4 points5 points ago

Yeah, that's a pretty good deal. I don't think it's the Jaco bass like everybody is saying, or even a ripoff... It looks like a Squier Vintage Modified Fretless Jazz Bass (Say that 10 times fast...) That alone is worth about $300 new. Maybe $200 to $250 used. I'd go for it.

That's easily the funniest thing I've heard in a long time.

Seeing a lot of D3 hate elsewhere on the web, got me wondering... by Happyhotelin Diablo

[–]jooes 2 points3 points ago

do people actually remember what it was like to play D2?

Yeah, that's what I said too. I remember some guy went off on a huge rant on I think /r/games about the game, and he was saying stuff like "I'm a long time Diablo fan, and the combat in D3 is just too shallow! You're just clicking things all the time! It's terrible!" and all I could think was "Why did you even buy this game?" That's Diablo. If you've ever played a Diablo game, you'd know that that's about as complex as the combat gets.

He complained about how all of the quests were super linear too, and I think he forgot how totally laid out all of the quests in Diablo 2 were. 6 squares per act. That's totally open ended....

And the absolute worst argument ever that I've seen a few times is, "The graphics here are too cartoony and WoW-like! Fuck this, I'm going to play Torchlight 2 instead!" That one makes me laugh.

Me: What?... Fuck!

You ever go to buy something new only to have it already opened? That's not a new game, and that's fucking ridiculous. Gamestop even allows their employees to take home games, play them, bring them back and put them back in a case and sell them as brand new. (Or they used to do it, it might have changed). You can't do that, if I want to buy a new game, it should be sealed and never even touched before.

Or, you know what you do? Print extra labels and get blank cases. Leave the new and sealed games in the back or behind the counter, and just leave the blank cases out. It'd be super cheap to do and Gamestop can totally have it done. They have enough pull in the industry to be like "Ship some extra labels with the 50 cases of the game you're sending us". And then when you don't need so many copies, take those cases and use them for another new game. It's simple, and you wouldn't run into this problem. It'd probably be cheaper too and save them a ton of money.

Or look at Walmart. They display their games behind a case. That's another option.

How do developers present DRM? by Whitebushidoin truegaming

[–]jooes 1 point2 points ago

Exactly. I remember when "The Dark Knight" first came out in theaters, and they said "If we can keep this movie off of the internet for at least 24 hours, we will be happy"

So, it's not really about preventing piracy, it's about preventing piracy for as long as possible. Every single day that goes by with a game that's uncracked is a victory in the name of DRM. Because, if it gets someone who's really itching to play the game, but not wanting to buy the game (Yes, those people do exist), to actually go out and buy the game instead then that's a success! They've just made $60 off of someone who wasn't going to buy their game. They "rescued" a sale.

[–]jooes 2 points3 points ago

The option should be there when you start the game.

"Is this your first time playing Diablo?"

If yes, turn it off. If no, turn it on. Supposedly the reason it's in there is for new players so they don't get overwhelmed, so this should fix it.

It's called a Dado.

It's very easily done on a table saw, or a radial arm saw. Basically any saw that you can control the depth of the cut. They make dado saw blades that sort of look like wide saw blades, but it's easily done just by making multiple passes with a single blade and just moving the piece an 1/8" or so each cut.

Or you could do it with a router. They make dado bits as well.

Many people feel that hurting animals is wrong, even more so if the animal is intelligent. Would you still feel bad about violence toward an intelligent animal if it were outwardly hostile to humans? by baxter45in AskReddit

[–]jooes 1 point2 points ago

Oh, fuck yeah. Once upon a time, there was this black bear and he tried to come into our cottage. Probably just to eat our food because, but fuck that, we shot it. I'm not having any of that shit. Bears in my house, that's just not going to happen... So, if any of these animals try and attack me, they're going to die. It's as simple as that.

Anybody who lives anywhere with some sort of hostile animal in the area (bears, wolves, mountain lions, whatever) will most likely feel the same way. We come first. I'm not going to die just so some cute fuzzy animals don't have to feel pain. If they're really smart, they'll stay away. And if they don't stay away, well sorry animals, you had your chance...

[–]jooes 30 points31 points ago

It wasn't me, but a friend of mine. He was walking home one day, and just 2 minutes from his apartment, there was this old man that was walking by. And this guy just grabbed my friends junk. My friend wasn't having any of that, so he pushed him back and punched him right in the face. And a bunch of ladies saw it and they knew who the guy was (it's a small town) and they came over and they were giving my friend a bunch of shit, saying things like "How dare you punch a senior! You're an asshole! I'm going to call the cops!" and my friend was like "Don't bother, I'm calling the cops right now! This piece of shit just sexually assaulted me!" and the old ladies were trying to talk him out of it by saying things like that the old guy was all senile and that it wasn't really on purpose and that he didn't even know any better, and my friend was like "Fuck that" and called the cops anyway. And the old guy got arrested for it.

Have you walked into a Best Buy or Gamestop lately? The PC game section is absolutely pitiful.

The PC section at my local GameStop consists of one tiny shelf of games, and a wall section in the corner that consists entirely of Blizzard games. It's kind of sad.

6 ways game designers are screwing with pirates. (Hilarious) by HsRadain gaming

[–]jooes 40 points41 points ago

They fix the "broken" parts too.

Eventually, yeah... But usually not at first. It's not like they instantly know that this stuff is in the games they crack, it takes them a little bit. Like, I remember reading a few weeks ago that the Earthbound thing was only discovered in like 2006 or 2007, which is about 10-15 years after the game first came out... Which is definitely a long enough time to fuck with a couple people.

Piracy: What influences your decision to pay for or pirate a game? by gabe2in truegaming

[–]jooes 4 points5 points ago

Multiplayer is pretty huge. It's always kind of been that if you want to play multiplayer, you have to buy the game. So, what this means is that if it's just a single player game, there's really no reason for me to buy it. But if it's a more multiplayer-orientated game, then there's no point in even pirating it.

"Ease of Access" is a big one too. Sometimes cracks and stuff are easy to deal with, other times they are a fucking bitch. Sometimes it's just easier to own the game instead of fighting with cracks or those ones where you have to figure out servers. Or games with DLC. Ever pirate Oblivion? It's annoying as hell, there are like 10 different DLC's out there, takes forever to install. But with something like Steam, it's just a few clicks and you're done.

And there are a few games that I like that aren't super popular, so they take forever to download. Like X3. It took me like 2 weeks to download that with a torrent, and maybe only a couple hours on Steam. So, Steam is a better alternative in that case. Not always though, with some more popular games it makes no difference.
