Why Pirelli should change the tyres.. [SPOILER] by jerkstatein formula1

[–]jimbobjames 0 points1 point ago

The people in Q3 are already quicker than the rest of the field otherwise they would not be there.

You're assuming that the people in Q2 will always have an unused set of tyres because they didn't have to run in Q3. The drivers will do multiple runs if they don't set a competive time on the first attempt.

Giving the drivers in Q3 a set of tyres to just go destroy without consequence for the race is a massive advantage.

If they are just qualy tyres does that mean that the drivers in the top ten are then free to use any tyres from their allocation for the start?

I meant a general AMA not a "holy shit what was the fire like?" AMA.

Too much of an advantage for the people in Q3 - they simply need a rule that says they have to set a time.

Would be great if you could get him to do an AMA.

Also if you could ask him to relay our best wishes from the Reddit community to everyone involved it would be awesome.

SKY just showed a video of the fire going up.

Looked like a big explosion inside the garage with a lot of flame going straight up into the roof of the garage. Obviously lots of people running away from the fire and smoke.

Very scary images.

I think thats a bit disingenuous. The pictures you were watching were literally seconds after the fire had started. Fire spreads at phenomenal speed and the people fighting the fires would have been on the scene trying to save people inside the garages.

If you've ever been to a race you will know just how many people are around the paddock area and just how difficult it would be to move fire trucks in there quickly.

Looks like the fire is now out - no reports on casualties yet.

2012 Spanish Grand Prix - Qualifying discussion by Vilkkuin formula1

[–]jimbobjames 0 points1 point ago

If you go back and look at the seasons where they did have qualifying tyres, though, it was even worse.

I'm talking early eighties turbo era. The qualifying was an hour long and had absolutely no bearing on the race pace. It was pointless.

I think it's brilliant. It makes the driver have a only a couple of shots at putting in that perfect lap.

With the time limit they have they only had a couple of opportunities anyway.

It's the exact purity F1 is all about - 1 shot - Zero or Hero.

Let's say you have the resources to fabricate custom engine blocks and parts. How difficult would it be to build an engine with similar characteristics and power output as modern F1 engines? by HyphyLeenkin formula1

They don't experience combustion levels of high temperature.

Ceramics would be a better bet but they are banned for engine materials in F1.

"We're going to redo POSs" by kanodonnin Eve

[–]jimbobjames 0 points1 point ago

Only as a bitter vet I saw the modular post idea about 4 years ago, pretty sure this isn't the first fanfest where they talked about pos's being rubbish and they were going to fix them.

I do love ccp and eve though so I'm not fully bitter.

Loved your idea. hated that it never got implemented.

Weight distribution was fixed and if you don't run KERS you still have to carry the weight. The onboard shots with the graphics had a big cross through the kers indicator. Pretty sure they wouldn't say it wasn't available to them until after the race.

They didn't have KERS at Australia. They used tested it at Malaysia but decided not to race with it and then I think they finally used it in a race weekend fully in China. They also had many issues with it.
