Yes, I know - after some information is gathered, squares are no longer equally random. But I'm now fairly certain that, unlike Minesweeper, optimal strategy is to start in the middle. I also think that the Expert game is the best one to play.

Yes, while I love this assistant, one thing I commented to the authors on was that it would be helpful to have "likelihood of being a gold/silver/red/etc. gem" in addition to "likelihood of being a bomb/rupoor" on each space.

As there is no chance the corner spaces could be anything greater than red, and little chance that the side spaces could be, I believe that the best strategy to maximize rupees on intermediate/expert is to start in the middle. If you're taking a chance right away, you might as well take one that could lead to maximum profit. Then, if I hit a silver/gold, I try another hole two spaces away from the first (so that it might adjoin some of the bombs that the first one detected).

Mine happened due to excessive truancy. Somehow I talked my way into taking the final on the next available day and did okay.

But college had its revenge. To this day (20-odd years later) I still have nightmares about missing entire courses/tests/finals/etc.
