Anyone live in Cross Lanes, West Virginia? by parsons1408in meetup

I'm about 2 hours north in Clarksburg, but I wish you the best!

Today I got assaulted by a waiter over tips. Waiters/waitresses, what are your tipping horror stories? by tippingquestio2nin AskReddit

[–]jbarnosky 0 points1 point ago

Sorry, I know I'm late to the party, but I didn't see any other responses that matched my experience in the thread, so I thought I'd chip in.

It's not common, but I know that at Applebee's and Outback Steakhouses, they put one server in To Go for the night. That person takes your order, bags your food, and keeps orders straight. Anything that you ask for (extra butter, extra salad dressing, etc.) is taken care of by them. It's not a complicated job, and even after having worked it, I don't think it's worth a 20% tip, but oftentimes that person is counted as a "server" and is making the customary $2.13/hr.

I haven't worked at Applebee's (I've just commiserated with the To Go girls there), but at the Outback, my managers sorted out minimum wage by the week. So if I served Friday night and made $70, then worked in To Go all day on Saturday, then served Sunday and made $60, they would total up all of my hours and all of my tips and claim that my weekly total met the minimum wage standards, so they don't have to compensate anything.

Now I work part-time in a Japanese steakhouse (hibachi/sushi restaurant), and the Chinese owners treat me better than that.

This was really touching. I mean, no one's cutting onions here, but I had a moment.

Mitch Hedburg, a comedian, once said "Every time I get ready to go shave, I assume someone else on the planet is shaving, so I say 'I'm gonna shave, too!'"

Also, Mitch died, and his comedy was golden, so many people (like myself and Dirtpile) quote his awesome comedy as often as possible.

Protip: servers with even a modicum of social skills can tell which customers enjoy conversing with a stranger and which customers want them to shut up and go away. Some servers make small talk because there are friendly and open people out there who enjoy it. You aren't among them, and that's fine. They wouldn't mind serving your food and keeping to themselves. Don't tell me it's wrong, though, for a server to make small talk with customers who enjoy social stimulus.

The system isn't always right. There are hundreds of new links this very hour; try again, friend. The beauty of reddit is that you don't have to find every post interesting. Sometimes you'll be disappointed, sometimes you'll be amazed, and sometimes (although not very often), it will be exactly what you expect.

Haha, that's cool. I'm part of a traveling ministry, so I get excited about checking out church sound systems when we play.

I reached the same conclusion, given the set of facts available to me at the time. I applaud our deductive reasoning skills.

I took three years of French at university, and I'll commonly talk to myself under my breath in French or Japanese just to test the extent of my vocabulary and see how many things I can say or make a way to say. Then if there's something I get stuck on pretty badly, I can google around for a good translation and try to learn a better way to say it.

I end up developing an appreciation for the beauty of each language. Like the French phrase for "no problem" is "pas du probleme" (I can never remember where the accent marks go) -- the "du" means "of," just as you would see it in "eau du whatever" perfume. So, to the extent of my understanding, "pas du probleme" means "not of problems," or "of the subset of possible outcomes and circumstances, and everything that could be problematic, this is not one of those things. This thing that you're thanking me for does not belong to the world of problems."

I think too much, haha.

The ending to the last arc was the most rubbish bit about it. It's like he said "you know what, I'm done with this thing. Let's move on." Kill kill kill, death, disease, standard "x number of months later" segue... yeah, I was a bit disappointed in that.

But on the bright side, I'm really excited to see what he does with this new arc.

I've worn looser jeans all my life -- rolling them up makes me look like a bit of a country hick.

Now that my band is touring a lot more, we took a trip to H&M to find some stylish stage clothes, i.e. "teach the band to dress properly on stage and hope that they learn to dress properly every day." I ended up with a slightly tighter and stiffer pair of jeans. They aren't skinny-legged, but they aren't wide at all. It's their "Sliq" line, actually.

Anyway, those slimmer, stiffer jeans look great with the leg cuffed up once. All of my other jeans get cuffed if and only if they're dragging the ground (hey, I never really considered fashion before and now I'm in the process of re-building a decent wardrobe).

Honestly, no. I've even tried "testing" myself wearing Thai fisherman's pants, and gotten the same results. I feel kind of defective. Wearing those awesome pants makes me want to sit in a cross-legged position more, but I still get tingly sensations all over my lower half.

But... but I want to sit with my legs crossed. It's warmer that way.

Let's say, for example, that I would like to try meditation in a standard lotus position. At the moment, I'm screwed. I'm the worst meditator ever because I have to fidget with my legs.

It could be that they referred to themselves and/or others as Redditors. It is likely that the term "redditor" will come up in a long-term discussion of reddit.

Thanks to Crohn's Disease and the subsequent anemia label, I am ineligible to donate. I would, however, like to thank donors for their efforts. They saved my life a few years ago when I went to the hospital 'cause I was getting short of breath too easily. I found out that I had a hemoglobin level of 6 and they needed to pump 4 pints of blood into me overnight. Of course, they pricked me 17 times to find a blood vessel with enough blood to extract to double-check the tests.

Donations like yours made my skin all pinkish again. Thank you.
