Summer in the city... My little secret by Ididnotknowthatin philadelphia

[–]its_my_name 0 points1 point ago

Hmm... Can't say that I've ever done that. Saturday looks like it's going to be in the mid 80's. You bring the vise grips, I'll get a six-pack of beer.

DC guy deciding to spend the weekend in Philly... Looking for some advice, maybe some drinking pals. by its_my_namein philadelphia

Yup, but they were booked when I looked. :( Oh well, was going to couchsurf, but I remembered that I'm pretty much a drunken whore and wouldn't want to put anyone else through that. Ended up finding a retard cheap place on AirBNB. May or may not have somone come up later in the weekend to join, so this worked out well from a cost/flexibility perspective.

not preachy, I agree. But I needed OOo earlier today and had a shit-fuck of a time getting it to work. Newbs would be in a world of hurt if they really needed the old filters and such (like I did today.)

Locking a bike up around the Verizon Center? by yesidhitthatin washingtondc

[–]its_my_name 0 points1 point ago

I've had a bike stolen from the garage under the VC as have friends' bikes as well. The area is a mecca for both youths and adults practicing the fine arts of theivery and assault. Consider your bike to be disposable, I guess.

I also like the comment made by reivax that said to make your bike the less easy/tempting target.

Monday night at 51st State in West End/Foggy Bottom. Usually a good crowd of mixed age professionals and college students. $50 bar tab for winners and 50 cent tacos for everyone.

Am I an Introvert or just too fearful? Should I just accept introversion? by MusicalEvolution0in socialskills

[–]its_my_name 0 points1 point ago

How about you combine both qualities? Something like reading a book at a moderately crowded bar, or sitting at a brunch while doing a crossword puzzle.

This issue boils down to your dislike of social risk vs. your desire for companionship. Being social doesn't mean that you have to talk to everyone. Just read a book and wait for the chance to make an observation to the person next to you. ("Bartender's kinda slow tonight... glad I brought a book, ha.")

Workout routine for travel by VA_titanin Fitness

I used to travel a lot internationally and never really had workout facilities in or near the hotels. I lived well enough with daily pushups and chair dips. If you're strong enough for hand-stand push ups as I once was, they're great as a replacement for shoulder presses. I tried using resistence bands, but just find them awkward and simply not enough of a work out. Depending on local conditions, I would go for a run outside or even lift my bed as a light-weight bench press.

Finally, my last trick was really only applicable if I was going to be in a place for more than a week or two: go to a club and chat up the bouncer. He knows where you can work out.

And that's reason enough for me to have given up my life-long love of their sandwiches. My desire for chicken isn't worth someone elses rights.
